New Feature Highlights

Automated Productivity Scripts™
Save time and eliminate repetitive work by recording and saving any series of editing steps or actions as a Script that you can apply to other images. Scripts can be set to run automatically on an image or you can activate them yourself. Apply scripts to multiple images at once with enhanced Batch Processing support. Scripts can be easily shared with other Paint Shop Pro 8 users. Edit saved scripts without rerecording all of your actions using the built-in Script Editor.

Image Editing and Compositing Tools
Use the Background Eraser to quickly remove background sections from photographs and cleanly place the remaining image on another background to create sophisticated compositions. Organize complex images with multiple layers and Layer Groups. Create and edit Mask Layers to reveal selected areas of an image. New selection options make it easy to enhance and smooth active selections, while Selection Edit mode allows users to create a selection on their image with brushes and other creative tools.

New Painting Engine
It’s easier than ever to paint and retouch images with Paint Shop Pro’s new painting engine, which gives you smoother control over brush strokes. Save custom brush tips to use with any brush tool or to share with others. Expanded brush variance options deliver more flexibility and artistry to your fingertips. Expanded support for digital tablets provides more control when using a stylus.

Image Deformation Tools
New deformation correction tools make it easy to adjust images that aren’t quite perfect. The new Straighten tool automatically fixes crooked images imported from scanners or cameras. Keystoning and other perspective errors can be fixed with the new Perspective Correction tool. Digital camera users can apply the Lens Correction filters to correct pincushion, fisheye and barrel distortion effects.

Integrated Learning Tools
The new, integrated Learning Center makes it easy to learn Paint Shop Pro 8 with step-by-step Quick Guide tutorials, links to Product Tour movies, and integrated Help topics.

Warping Tools
The new Warp Brush lets you paint distortions directly onto your images for fun, creative effects. The Mesh Warp tool alters an image by distorting a mesh laid on top of the image. Load and save deformation maps to easily apply warping effects to other images.

Web Page Backgrounds
Use the Seamless Tiling and Offset Effect filters to prepare high-quality seamless patterns and tiled images for use as Web page backgrounds.

Oh my God.... It's turned into...... Into.... BLOATWARE!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! My trusty old PSP! No!! ..... Hmm.... It's still as fast, tho. Guess it doesn't matter. (^_^);
#6.1 Spyder on 28 Apr 2003 - 17:36
can you please explain how its bloated for those of us who think otherwise?
#6.2 tmaxxtigger on 28 Apr 2003 - 22:25
I agree, I run PSP8 and then PSP7 and compared the memory usage, it's way more in PSP8 when I've been adjusting a large number of digital images... :-(
#6.3 Spyder on 29 Apr 2003 - 11:38
ok but how much RAM do you have in your PC?
#6.4 tmaxxtigger on 29 Apr 2003 - 11:46
Ok, just because I have 512 MB of ram, i'd prefer if one application would leave a little for the others.... I'll stick with PSP 7...
#6.5 Spyder on 29 Apr 2003 - 12:20
mkay.. do whatever you want to do but i think you're blowing things way out of proportion. just to test your "i'd prefer if one application left some for the rest" theory, I opened a ton of common programs at once. they are: IE6 OE6 Mozilla 1.3 WinRAR Kazaa Lite MS Word XP Bulletproof FTP server Windowblinds Windows Messenger Norton Antivirus 2003 PSP8 (with 3 high res, 1280x1024 pics open inside it) I'm looking at task manager right now and total ram usage at the moment is 373. You have more than enough physical RAM to use PSP8 along with a ton of other apps at the same time.

Hey, so does PSP8 load faster than Adobe Photoshop 6? thanks!

if i have photoshop 7, is there any use in this? is thier some stuff that photoshop doesn't have?
#12.1 Schmoove on 29 Apr 2003 - 11:21
Most likely that PSP has things that PS doesn't have.... but it's also the other way around. PS has things PSP doesn't have. Switching is not an option for me PS will always be my favorite, I mean I learned to use it, I can virtually do anything I like with it.... so why bother switching?
#12.2 Timble on 29 Apr 2003 - 17:25
If you have Photoshop 7 you have already paid four times more than anyone who owns PSP8 on graphic software. I would certainly hope for that price that the product you get has more professional features, and indeed, more features overall, than PSP8. It strikes me that switching down to PSP would be a bit silly. For those of us who (a) are not rolling in cash and (b) care about little things like the law, PSP8 is a fine piece of software and good value too. But I probably wouldn't switch to it if I'd already paid for Photoshop!

lots new in psp8, but nothing much better than photoshop 7 IMO
#13.1 Timble on 29 Apr 2003 - 17:26
As mentioned above, that is to be expected in a software package that costs a quarter as much. If it's better than Photoshop you've got to question the latter's pricing strategy! It's good though for what you pay.

sweet

Having Beta Tested 8, I sure do recommend it. ^_^ Scripts are very useful for having to repeat actions over and over and the vector tools are far more user friendly than 7's.
