#2 XP-RTM on 14 Jun 2003 - 12:30
NAV all the way!
#3 Jon on 14 Jun 2003 - 13:10
Have you ever actually TRIED kav?

Its bloody good, I used it for my degree project (ie on a linux server), its so accessable and great to use.

The only problem is the support monkeys are all russian!
#4 Soleen on 14 Jun 2003 - 13:42
Dr Web, is the best
even thought the support also all russian, since it is made in St. Piterburg

I am not sure where KAV made, in moscow?

p.s. here is Dr. Web's website: http://www.sald.com/

KAV is in moscow

KAV is VERY old (as old as NAV or older?), used to be called AVP.

They have the best experience in not only getting the latest information and blocking teh latest viruses, but also alot of .EXE packers UNPACKERS.. which is not an easy job.

I bet that if i take a trojan, pack it with some exe packer, NAV won't find it anymore. ( i have tested this. KAV is the best)

I have exclusive news, not sure if it's worth posting..
But KAV v5.0 which is a major upgrade should be out this September.
The guys are saying that it will have a new spankin' interface, some new scanning technology which will be VERY FAST.

I have the emails to prove this.. might post this as news if anyone wants me to.

Tried it, wasn't at all impressed. *Thumbs down*
#7.1 Jon on 14 Jun 2003 - 16:31
Do you want to give us a reason why we should care about your opinion?

IE: Do you have professional experience, or are you just a home user monkey with no real clue
#7.2 Gweedo on 14 Jun 2003 - 16:58
Well, I don't profess to be the Master of the Anti-Virus, but no program should lock up your computer after the install reboot and then freeze durning the uninstall. I also couldn't get it to download the virus definitions. I downloaded them manually from their website and tried installing it that way, but to no avail. I can't really do a whole lot without the definitions. Also, I didn't really like the interface.

i tried kav for a week, its not that bad, pretty good i'd say.

i found that NAv was better detecting virus thru their online website than there program itself that is installed into your sytem,

You have to remember people, that american spend millions to attract you to their products by making you think its a great product and its beauty including its changing its interface every year making you think their a great upgrade from their previous platform.
All i can tell you, watch what direction that microsoft is headed for their research for built-in AV on their new longhorn os coming out in september 2005.

The same goes with people who think that Nvidia and ASUS are the best, these people are extremely loyal to these companies, but these companies do not lead the way anymore, ATI (msi) and GIGA-BYTE are the leaders for the last two years for intel and amd. Those who buy asus are men in their late 30's and 40's with nothing else to do but seat in front of their computer thinking their the best in the industry when in fact their mechanics. plumbers, carpenter, warehousemen,etc.. get my drift, places like Tom's hardware and Neowin are great for their hardware and software news, stick with them and keep on reading these forums.its a great community

Microsoft has just buyed a new AV Techology - RAV by Gecad for 20 mil $

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/jun03/06-10GeCadPR.asp

RAV (Romanian Antivirus) is known for his revolutionary detection system of polymorphic viruses

KAV is not here to impress you. It's here to block all virii, trojans, worms, JS, VBS. It even tells you that the "You are an idiot" script it's an idiot script and prevent loading it (I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about). It's one of the best AV programs. There was an A/V test on a UK magazine where Kaspersky found 99.7% of the viruses/trojans/worms/scripts, F-Prot found 99.5% of them, McAfee found about 85% and Norton about 78% (Those are not the exact ratings, I didn't keep the magazine)
I don't care about how it looks, I just want the best protection with a fast av program.
#10.1 Jon on 14 Jun 2003 - 17:45
I would suggest that test was flawed.

In the extensive test results I've viewed for my degree project, every major AV vendors product as detected 99.x% of viruses.

Trojans, malware and scripts are a different story though.
#10.2 JimmyT on 14 Jun 2003 - 22:50
I'm sure you are right at this one. All av software are good on finding and stopping viruses. But not all of them are lightweight on system resources or fast or good on finding and stopping trojans.
As a Symantec customer I know from their e-mails that in order to stop trojans and worms I should get Norton Internet Security, not Norton Antivirus.
So it's kind of unfair to compare KAV (which stops anything malicious) with NAV.
But it would also be unfair to compare KAV with Internet Security, since the latter has a firewall as well. (I'm not sure, but I think that NAV Corporate is better than NAV personal and professional)

KAV is not like NAV !
It does not integrate into your sistem like a plague !

It's modular ant it's the best in detection and removing viri & Co

Daily updates (small dimensions), great online (e-mail) support !
#12 xluqe on 15 Jun 2003 - 00:48
The best AV IMO is NOD32 v2.0
Much better than the crappy NAV.
(1 reply) #13 Caleb on 15 Jun 2003 - 04:31
NOD means "fart" in hebrew.. IM NOT EVEN GETTING CLOSE TO THAT AV!
#13.1 PROGAME on 22 Jun 2004 - 23:24

SUPERAntiSpyware is a great product, all the industry experts agree. I thought you all might like to know you can get 20% off the PRO version - SUPERAntiSpyware. Not seen this offer anywhere else. Dave.
