Aww... the download is from C|NET. I don't like them. Can't there be a normal download site?

I would never use this for a couple of reasons.

1) It has no secure ripping feature
2) It costs money when there are other, free & superior products. (CDex, Exact Audio Copy)
3) The company has (at least once) artificially inflated it's ratings on C|Net.

What exactly is secure ripping?

I like it. It is quick and easy to use. The CDDB reading is really fast and it has an easy interface for folder outputs and encoder selection.

I don't know about inflated ratings. I've tried those other 2 softs (a long while back) and I didn't like them.

To answer #1, yes there is now a secure reading feature. This has been added to the more recent builds.

#2, it doesn't have to cost money.

#3 How do you know this? Is there proof on this suggestion.

The program works great for me. Music sounds just as good as EAC as long as you choose to encode with it's integrated LAME 3.93.1 compressor. And it's much easier to use, no rediculously detailed configuration options (as in EAC) need to be configured. I have both Easy CD-DA Extractor and EAC on my computer and I prefer the former. It's just more user friendly and you can get the same sound quality as you can with EAC. The newer versions also include all of the --alt presets you can think off. For me, there isn't any reason to use EAC anymore.

@ Dross: I agree with you about the interface. It integrates very nicely with XP and is laid out well. The other two aren't quite as nice to look at but they're generally more powerful. As for secure ripping, basically it makes sure the rip is perfect (as in no pops, skips etc). It does this by reading each sector on the cd at least twice (or more if the two reads don't match). As audio cd's don't have any error correction built in, this is the only way to make sure your rip is as perfect as can be. EAC has this and CDex does too (through the use of the cdparanoia library).

@ plexdude:

1) I've heard of the secure ripping they were working on, but there are no details as to the technology so no one can be sure how well it actually works (short of a full test maybe). I did find this thread relating to it (albeit for 5.1): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/32505

2) It does have to cost money unless you resort to illegal means. And why bother when, as I said, there are great free tools already.

3) Take a look at this page: http://www.accuraterip.com/pokisoft.htm That should tell you everything on that subject.

Also, the quality won't be any different between programs, only without secure ripping there may be pops etc. I agree Easy CDDA is easier to set up, but that's only because it doesn't have as many options. It's good to hear they have the --alt presets available though, as many programs still don't.

You should realize that the votes are for Power Encoder and not Easy CD-DA. Also, where is the proof that this is the doing of Pokisoft? All I see is a spam of one user, all of which could be an error and if it's not, download.com isn't doing their job.

Yes but that's still the same company. Did you also read about the mailing list spamming? If you ask me it's pathetic that a compay could sink that low...

EAC....... Dude EAC refuses to recognize my CD-ROM or CD-RW, hasn't worked in years, From Win2k Server to Advanced Server... NEVER, only on Win2k Pro I think, that was Eons ago

I was forced to use MUSICMATCH Jukebox 7.5, but now I like its advanced options Mutipass & Block functions are excellent

If you can help, fine, cause I don't feel like going to the EAC forums {Lazy, lazy, Lazy}
