ZoneAlarm includes five interlocking security services that deliver easy-to-use, comprehensive protection. Unlike any other security utility, it incorporates a firewall, Application Control, an Internet Lock, dynamically assigned Security Levels and Zones. Combined, these elements yield the strongest security possible.

Although the market is flat overall, there are several areas where change is happening, according to Ovum. These include:

  • Web services have the potential to revolutionize the enterprise software business by moving these applications to a services-based architecture
  • There will be continued consolidation among software vendors
  • Growth areas include business intelligence (BI), security, portals, and content management
  • New U.S. laws such as Basel II and Sarbanes-Oxley are fuelling interest in records management systems
  • Open source software continues to make ground.
  • Wireless technologies to support mobile workers and devices are beginning to attract serious interest.

I heard ZoneAlarm is the hardest firewall to break. Even amongst the other paid versions of other companies.

ZA is terrible, even when you disable it and uninstall it it leaves bits of itself behind which is obtrusive to your browsing, plus since ZA3 its just bloatware, they just tried to cram too much crap into it. Id rather stick with Kerio which is also free, or at a push Tiny firewall.

Plus if your a newcomer to software firewalls, there are far too many options that can screw your system up within ZA.

You can call it that but it's not like ZoneLabs is giving you a limited choice. You got the Plus version which, if I recall correct is just the firewall without anything else. I've been using ZoneAlarm for 3 years now and never had a problem yet. I think it's one of the best and keeps on getting better.

i'd never recommend ZA any more... I used to rely on it till I went and checked how it was doing at: Shields Up and even though the firewall said I was in complete stealth I wasnt and there was numerous ports wide open. Never the less if you can get it i'd recommend Norton/Symantec Personal Firewall which I got with my Motherboard I am now in compleye stealth without any ports open, very important for a static ip!

I wouldn't rely on Norton too much... When I used it, it didn't even bother asking me if I wanted to allow programs internet access. Yes, it was configured correctly and I used it a few months ago.

I started Trillian, but only about 15 seconds later did it ask for permission to connect. I tried multiple programs with the same result.

Your ports are perfectly safe. I used the Nano-probe Port feature on that same web page and it reported stealth mode. ZoneAlarm isn't for newbies, I agree, but it is very powerful. In fact, the author of the Shields Up! web site recommends using it as it has the least problems.

That "crap" is what makes it safe and secure. Otherwise, I don't know what you're talking about. Unless you care to elaborate on this? As far as I can see, ZA has no bloatware whatsoever. I don't know about unistall residues because I'll never uninstall this piece of fine software it to see.

Shields Up? You've been fooled by Steve Gibson Again. Priceless.

sorry, but this is crap! I just tried this test myself and it said "stealth" everywhere...you must be mistaken!

PC Pro UK magazine (which I trust) had Zone Alarm as their "A" rated Software firewall but this months copy put Agnitum Outpost 2 as the current best software firewall available.

Obviously i switched straight away and I am impressed, Outpost 2 all the way now

see...told you all...it is the one peice of software that is the most difficult to crack...all of the above mentioned were a snap...ZA is the toughest
