It's almost worth upgrading just for Layer Comping. I can't tell you how many times I wish I had that ability in 7.
#8 sweetmate on 15 Oct 2003 - 18:46
This is old news, CS was announced Sep 29 and will be shipping end of November in N America.

i dont get the layer comping thing, i always do that. its called 'copy layer'
not worth the upgrade price
#10.1 BarryJ on 15 Oct 2003 - 19:48
layer comps as in compositions, so you can save different groupings of layers

The only really interesting feature is the Create Keyboard Shorcuts... the rest of the feats can be acomplished by using curves/levels/layers/more manual work...
#11.1 sryo on 15 Oct 2003 - 22:01
and that's not even *new*, it was re-added (they removed it in 2.5 for pc).
the only interesting features are the ones they left out, photoshop 8 was supposed to include filter layers

#15 Ciderx on 15 Oct 2003 - 22:24
Man, I hope these come as Windows Installers files. Adobe products are the WORST to repackage as MSIs!

No, it will be coming out for PC at the same time as Mac. However, like all Adobe releases, the code is optimized for OS X.

Well, it was originally going to be called Photoshop 8 but when Adobe realized that they were releasing new versions of some of their biggest products near the same time that also happened to have tighter integration than in the past with one another they went with the CS tag. After all think about the trend to change from numbers to letters. Office XP (though they are back to numbers now), Windows XP, Studio MX, and now Adobe Photoshop CS.

Furthermore, it really isn't an interim version at all as far as features are concerned. The number of improvements is about equal to those that were introduced with 7 (and we all know how much a difference there is between 6 and 7). The issue with Adobe is that their new tools seem to be inconsiquential but they always end up being indisposable tools. Remember when they added on-the-fly text editing in version 6? We all though that it was unneeded, but now it is something most of us can't live without.

CS IS GOING TO BE NUTS. (and the file browser is damn quick, ive tried it)
