Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.

Truthfully, how do you guys all feel about Thunderbird say, vs. Outlook, or Outlook Express? I am sitting here debating on switching e-mail programs and I'd like to see if you guys prefer Thunderbird.

I was a consistent OE user for a long time before switching to Eudora for the SPAM filtering, now I've found Thunderbird I haven't' looked back.

Same here. I was also using OE and then switched to Eudora which is a little bit better. I then also tried some others and now I am finaly using Mozilla or Thunderbird and they are almost perfect.

I like this email client a lot. It loads fast and has a nice GUI. The only thing I disklike about it is that it uses 18MB RAM when it's running, which isn't that much, but compared to Outlook (8MB) it's considerabely bigger.

Still, I don't keep it running in the background, and it loads up quickly, so no real complaints. Miranda IM has a nice plugin that checks all my email accounts every 10 minutes and if I do get mail it lets me know and runs Thunderbird for me. Sweet!

I've never used Thunderbird before, but I've heard good things about it from you guys here on Neowin. I'm downloading it right now to give it a try.

#11.2 PROGAME on 15 Oct 2003 - 17:34

#11.3 Zerosignull on 15 Oct 2003 - 17:59
just use hotmail popper.

http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/

it allows you to get your hotmail from ne email client
#11.4 Proneax on 15 Oct 2003 - 19:04
Yes! hotpop is awesome!! The main reason I'd been using OE was for it's hotmail integration. I use my hotmail address to sign up for things online so all my spam goes to my hotmail account and not my main account. I'm so glad I can use thunderbird now, no more worrying about security holes in OE! All my contacts etc imported flawlessly, this program is highly recommended.
