why is there a 1.x.x and a 2.x.x version? what's the diff?
#4 RoboStac on 30 Oct 2003 - 16:33
2.x.x is the newer one, which is a complete redesign. However, many modules (including mod_perl, and mod_php) are only supported under apache 1, so it is maintained too.

i might just be retarded, but i can never seem to get Apache 2.x to work right for me in Win32. Apache 1.x is all i ever use. and it may not just be me, my paid hosting company uses Apache 1.x on their Linux system. I don't know if its just incompatibilities with PHP/Perl stuff, or the syntax of the configuration file and .htaccess files is just totally different. The server ends up throwing out 500 server misconfiguration errors using a setup that works perfect in Apache 1.x.

i've never had any issue with 1.x, so i'm glad they still update it. a lot of people use 1.x because it just *works* - or because 2.x doesnt work right for them either.

I am still using Apache 1.3.27 locally, because it appears faster.

Apache 2x, is ment to introduce multi-threading and has an Apache start monitor running in the system tray. But I find Apache 2 to also be a few seconds slower running the same PHP code I program. Might be how it is configured with the updates, because with the newer Apache 1.3s it seems slow too

Is that on Windows or *UNIX?
