WinRAR is a powerful archive manager. It can backup your data and reduce size of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files downloaded from Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format.

It's not a defragmenter. What it does is reduce the need to diskeeper. It handles the files better as to cause less fragmentation in the first place. It doesn't defrag the drive. It simply reduces the amount of fragmentation that it causes.

sorry but I PERFECTLY understand
I do not need winrar do defrag my HD.
diskeeper can do that perfectly
i unrar files then burn then delete...
i dont care that winrar defrag files

obviously you DO NOT understand. It is not defragmenting anything. It is simply handling the extracttion of files in a means that results in less fragmentation in the first place. So instead of taking medication to cure your flu symptoms, you are taking a flu vaccine to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Who cares about compression times? It's more likely that you'll care about speed when decompressing, as you'll probably do that more often. Does anyone have any benchmarks on that? I've found WinRAR to be light years ahead of WinZip and WinAce in decompression speed (and memory usage). So, any comparisons?
