Two HD DVD format specifications are currently being promoted for standardisation. One is the ROM disc with 15GB of storage capacity on a single layer and 30GB on dual-layer media, and the other is a rewritable disc with 20GB of storage capacity. In November, the DVD Forum's steering committee approved the proposed HD DVD-ROM format in version 0.9.

Dear God.

As a hardcore Opera user, this version blows 5 thousand goat balls.
Seriously, what the hell were the developers thinking when making this "new and improved" toolbar system.

I'm boycotting Opera until they change it back.

What exactly is so bad in a far better looking and a more accessible hotlist (now called panels)?

It needs a few minutes of getting used to. You'll learn to appareciate it.
Instead of moaning, try it.
#6.2 STi Sev on 20 Dec 2003 - 00:47
Actually, I've been using it for 2 hours.

There are two severe bugs that just simply kill the program.

When I close the window, it maximizes the left toolbar. No way to resize it other than to open a new window.

Plus a slew of other bugs. Refer to the damn forum if you want to get the onslaught of bugs. It's a preview version, I know, but jeez.

a hardcore Opera user?
I don't know for U .. I used it for 5 years..

just downloaded the preview and used it for 5 minutes ..

reconfigured panels toolbar on TOP .. as it is in opera <= 5.2x
and checked "allow empty workspace" under Preferences > Windows

and voila...

so .. again .. what?

all I can say.. things are just more flexible... sorry if people can't be flexible in their minds..
#6.4 Soleen on 20 Dec 2003 - 01:14
Lol hardcore opera user,
I downloaded it and installed over my existing opera even thought,
they did not recommend it, and i am using opera for mail client as well.
And i have to tell you i absolutelly LOVE this new look and all the new features
it is just amazing how much better opera gets with every new build!
#7 Digital_k on 20 Dec 2003 - 01:08
Been tooling around with it now, on dial up btw, with my usual tweaks and this thing is faster!I really like the native support, all of the new things were a little trying to get configured took a couple minutes, tops. Very promising

Could someone please post screenies?!?!
#8.1 aksiom on 20 Dec 2003 - 01:48
dear rossiknol..

instead of downloading few screenshots why not download the preview itself and test it...? few quality screenshots are about whole setup size...

and screenshots are pretty individual...

for example.. I made my opera look EXACTLY like last (stable) release..
secondly.. I use my own skin .. not seen anywhere, to match my windows theme..
so only thing you could recognize is name 'Opera' in titlebar..

It's flexibility and under-the-hud stuff that counts .. and that's something you must try yourself..

programs like Opera browser.. Miranda instant messenger.. Total Commander.. and so on.. have very high configuration flexibility.. you can make them look what you like... they often look like crap on from-the-box screenshots...

PS: happy birthday?!

I like the panel to the left
not alot of clutter.

Don't do previews or betas, but sounding pretty good so far, for the most part. Love that Opera. Been using it since early version 5.

I like it I like it! To me, even on broadband, it seems snappier than
7.23

Where the hell am i supposed to type the adresses?

It certanly still uses quite a bit of ram (37mb, i just checked)
#14.1 fobban on 20 Dec 2003 - 13:40
Yes finally a app that consumes RAM!!
Honestly. I've got 1 GB of ram in my Windows XP machine, and windows have never used more than 400 MB of it (no im not using photoshop, 3dsmax ...). Feels like a ****** waste of money to buy more than 512 MB ram
I think it would have been nicer if windows used the ram like *unix does. Like if i close a app it's still there in the memory (access to the app is faster if i run it again) until the RAM is needed for something else.
Im no linuxguru and maybe this is a bad "camparing" but anyhow, windows should use the RAM i've got
#14.2 Rapier on 20 Dec 2003 - 17:09
Mine says 47 Mb....But who carez
#14.3 Danrarbc641 on 20 Dec 2003 - 17:47
I'm pretty sure Windows already does that fobban. It won't clear out the memory unless it needs more.
That's what those memory defragmenters/washers/managers do, force the memory to clear out instead of allowing Windows to do it when it needs it.

It's slooooow

try hovering the table rows at nforce and see how slow it changes... it lags ALOT! Then test it IE/MyIE2 which changes the colors directly. There's a huuuge difference
#15.1 Rapier on 20 Dec 2003 - 17:08
The site u refer to has Porn..Cracked Softwarez and Cracked Apps
Dont discuss it ere
#16 Scorbing on 20 Dec 2003 - 13:37
It seems they are following Netscape's footsteps into hell. Some years ago the company said their Opera browser would never be bigger than 2 megabytes.

What happened?
#17 mcnelson on 20 Dec 2003 - 17:34
Not sure about the panels, was always just used to a floating hotlist, plus I have an MSN bar on my right hand side of the screen so to have a panel bar on the left would leave hardly nuff space. Still, I haven't made it crash yet, and it seems just as fast and robust as 7.23 for me anyway.
(1 reply) #18 Danrarbc641 on 20 Dec 2003 - 18:08
My site's nav bar in IE/Mozilla

And in Opera

The W3C validator says it's 100% standards compliant, and it renders in standards compliance mode in Mozilla. I will not be attempting to fix it.
I've already fixed an IE rendering bug - and still kept compliance, but my site is viewed by casual computer users so I had to. But like I said it's still compliant.
#18.1 nic on 20 Dec 2003 - 19:48
Report the bug! This is a "preview" version for reasons like that.
(1 reply) #19 Heathen on 20 Dec 2003 - 23:41
OK... so I'm a huge Opera fan... but I hate this version. I really don't like the panel on the left hand side.....

... looks like I'll be moving back to Firebird.
#19.1 mezz on 21 Dec 2003 - 19:33
Only idiots who don't know how to tweak the Opera....and it's only preview version; it means it's not final UI.

It was too easy to tweak to bring back to the old way.
