"By offering a sixty day trial of Microsoft's popular Office 2003, Tiny.COM is ensuring complete customer satisfaction" continued Trevaskiss. "Not only does Microsoft Office 2003 Trial allow consumers to try before they buy, they will also be able to benefit from the preferential upgrade price, saving them in the region of £230. This software presents a value for money solution and compliments Tiny.COM's dedication to provide its customers with high-quality, low-cost products"

Scott MacDonald, Microsoft's Office OEM Product Manager commented "We're pleased to work with partners such as Tiny.COM who are always looking for ways to deliver new tools for our joint customers that will help them be more productive at work, home and at school."

In addition to the Microsoft Office 2003 Trial software, all Tiny.COM customers will also receive a full version of Microsoft Works 7 with every Tiny.COM PC and Notebook, allowing customers to access files created in MS Office if they decide not to take advantage of the upgrade offer after the sixty day trial has expired.

Tiny.COM launched on 20th February 2004 promising to deliver the UK's best prices on PC systems and Notebooks, whilst guaranteeing the use of the same make or similar high quality components as those found in leading brand competitor PCs. In line with this promise, Tiny.COM recently announced the addition of a 'specials' section to its site, which will launch on 11th May 2004 and will offer ridiculously low-cost PC systems for a specified period of seven days.

excellent proggie still no support for CMYK tough
#6.1 Xenomorph on 26 Mar 2004 - 07:15
no support for CMYK??

"Another important addition to version 2.0 is the ability to pick a color based on its CMYK (a color model used by printers) value via the colors dialog."

i thought CMYK *is* one of the 2.0 features..

Installed and runs perfectly on my WinXP Pro system. DL'ed the files #4 mentioned. Installed the gtk* program first then the gimp* program. I have never messed with GIMP before and I gotta say, WOW, very impressive and powerful program. The price is right too.

I tried it on the Mac today. It seemed like a hassle to have to constantly select each window every time you had to do something in that window. For example, everytime you want to change a tool, you have to first select the window then select the tool, then go back and reselect the window that your art is in and finally select what you were trying to do. Seems like way too much hassle to me I'll stick with Photoshop even though it does cost money.
#10.1 roadwarrior on 26 Mar 2004 - 04:46
As I understand it, that is a limitation of the X11 windowing system that Apple provides.
#10.2 R2x on 26 Mar 2004 - 05:15
So it works fine on XP? I'd make the move to Linux, but my job kinda forces me to stick wit windooooows.

All you have to do is right-click to bring up the menu ( screenshot ) ... oh, you're on a mac, no right click button?

Oh please.

We do have right click functionality.
#10.5 sttroopers on 26 Mar 2004 - 11:11
How many buttons do you have to press to simulate a right-click?
#10.6 Varsity on 26 Mar 2004 - 16:44
One.

Edit: one additional, that is.
#11 ramian on 26 Mar 2004 - 05:55
does the problem explained by R2x in post #12 exist on the windows platform as well?
#12 Galley on 26 Mar 2004 - 06:40
The interface isn't as butt-ugly as it used to be.
edit: ISN'T

the interface is a dissapointment!

one of the biggest turn offs with the Gimp 1.x was the ugly interface.

and now Gimp 2.0 is here --- with only a slightly modified 1.x interface? its better, but not as good as i thought it would be.

agreed.

Awsome application. All that for free! Tried it and it is working great. Iz looks like opensource does it all. OpenOffice.org + Mozilla + GIMP do almost all I need. Excellent!

At least the instalation in windows is now more easy (gtk+ and gimp). The first time i install gimp the instalation really was a pain azz, linuxers are customary for complex setup but windowers are customary for easy setup.
#15.1 JLP on 27 Mar 2004 - 11:05
Hm install in Linux is not har at all. For example in Gentoo I just type:
emerge gimp
in Mandrake just:
urpmi gimp
And it downloads and installs GIMP. It is in fact even easier then in Windows.
#15.2 burning_jonny on 28 Mar 2004 - 23:35
Well if you already have X11 in Panther, all ya gotta do is copy Gimp.app to Applications folder and run it...how much easier does that get??
(1 reply) #16 burning_jonny on 28 Mar 2004 - 23:30
I think this rules...

GIMP + Mozilla + Nvu + OpenOffice = The poor man's multimedia/office replacement solution!

I am just amazed at the quality and features that these products offer, for free no less. These guys and gals deserve our continued support.

GIMP 2.0 is a nice improvement.
#16.1 kemical on 29 Mar 2004 - 20:14
nvu has a LOT of improvement ahead for them ;-(
