Thanks [Thrice]. As expected, today Mozilla Firefox hit the first (and only) release candidate for the 0.9 release. This version has many new features over the 0.8 release, such as a new default theme, a new theme manager, a new extension manager, and a new update facility.

The 0.9 release, asides from featuring new features (as mentioned above), comes with improved stability, speed, and compatability. The Mozilla developers would encourage you to download this build, test it out, and if you encounter any problems, file a bug report at BugZilla.

Mr. Magoo, as usual, will be introducing you to the 0.9 release which is expected next week so fear not if you aren't quite sure of what's going on!

It seems a little strange to put out a release candidate for what is essentially a beta release.
Plus the installer/about box still reports it as 0.8 (not that it metters).
And the new theme is horrible, I think they could have done a lot better with that. I hope somebody ports over the old theme, assuming they are not already backward compatible.

i don't use the default theme, so i don't really care about the new look.

Anyone has screenshots of the new default theme?

Just start posting bugs on BUGZILLA about what *exactly* is uhly in the new theme and they will listen to you. If you just shout the general "it is ugly" they can't do nothing about it.

Yeh do like the old theme better however in that screenshot the Windows Theme doesnt help!

Also you can shrink the icons to make it look a little more tidy.

In addition the browser does NOT handle PHP sites very well. It places every column in left alignment! That was enough for me to stop using it!

The new theme is f*cking awful... I loved the previous theme and now they've let some 3 year old design this and don't even include the old theme as an option!!! It runs Neowin slower and it looks like crap... I hope the final version is nothing like this crap.

When there's so many great themes available, does it really matter that much what the default theme is like? It's ok if it's usable in my book.

I think the new theme is nice but i prefer the creamyness of Charamel

Ummm, you guys had better wait for Monday the 14th. I'm reading the Mozilla forums and its still fairly buggy. If you want a decent build, just wait.

I'd download this one and have a play about. Clean your profile, go for a spin with it. They can only fix the bugs if they get a good idea of how and why they are occuring.

@dev0- i'd look towards tuesday or wednesday actually. The RC slipped 2 days, makes sense that the final release will too.

This is one fast browser! :o
Faster than the newest Opera. Have been using Opera for weeks now. If only Firefox had mouse gestures :
Quote this comment #10.1 Posted by ActionWes on 09 Jun 2004 - 09:36
if you want mouse gestures, install the All-in-One Gestures extension

The new theme just sucks... and its says FireFox 0.8 all over

The fact that it says 0.8 all over is intentional. They never put the next version number on the browser until it is complete.

Anyone who wants to download the old Qute theme, get it from http://quadrone.org/projects/mozilla/browser/

The gestures extension is sweet. Is there an extension for managing groups of sites in tabs? Much like Advent or MyIE2 where you can have the browser open a set of tabs by default and also have grouped bookmarks.
