#5 chuayw2000 on 29 Jun 2004 - 10:44
Downloaded the beta for 2004 last year and it caused loads of problem. best bet is to wait for gold to come out.
#6 DjmUK on 29 Jun 2004 - 10:47
I concur, beta 2004 buggered up my system and there was no ability to permantly remove it from one's system. Even upgrading to the full version didn't work, so I won't be trying 2005 beta (no doubt even more services will need to be running with 2005).

I'm using NAV2002. Didn't try 2003 and 2004. I've heard countless times that NAV2004 is bloatware.

How much bloated NAV2004 is compared to 2002?
#8.1 anakinsolois on 29 Jun 2004 - 12:18
2004 is bloat ultima it occupies huge amounts of RAM. When downloading files, it scans every 15-30 seconds, which occupies large amounts of CPU power. 2003 is slightly more than 2002, and i suggest you upgrade to it. Or better yet, get SYmantec Corporate 9.0, its got the same gr8 protection as Norton (same company, whaddya exppect?) but occupies much less system resources.
#8.2 djtaylor on 29 Jun 2004 - 20:19
If you notice, it only does that with archives (zip, rar, etc). So turn archive scanning off and it won't do it! It still scans the files in the archive as they're extracted anyway, so turning it off won't cause any harm.

You people installing NAV beta and not setting a restore point amaze me. Yes, I installed the beta and it did hose up my system. I reverted to the restore point and my system is working as before. I know System Restore has it's limitations but it works for me.

Norton Anti-virus is a virus, I am a system Admin for a large corporate network, and it took me a little over a month to get Norton off and everything working again. If you are a home user, use AVG, it's faster, better, and just as efficient, and best of all, you'll notice that your computer boots heaps faster cause AVG doesn't piggy-back the kernel like norton does. It runs parellel to the processes. My boss couldn't open word or excel about 6 months ago, everything just stopped working for him, as soon as I un-installed Norton, *bam* everything came back. The proof is in the pudding.
#15.1 rbanksy on 30 Jun 2004 - 09:51
and as a corporate admin your using NAV because???

SAV designed for coporate networks is very light weight product. Fantastic system.
(1 reply) #16 ph33rm3 on 29 Jun 2004 - 21:33
I used NAV once(2003), and hated it, it took me forever to get it all off my computer and have my comp running normally again, I now use Computer Associates Etrust Antivirus, easy to use, does the job, computer boots up faster ( as wulfshayde said, because of nortons "piggy backing" ) and doesn't interfere with anything i do on computer.
#16.1 Night Prowler on 30 Jun 2004 - 00:44

#18 MD351 on 30 Jun 2004 - 11:23
Norton 2004 is crap.... I went back to 2003 and no problems.
(1 reply) #19 hypoxiaicon on 30 Jun 2004 - 14:30
This has totally screwed my system. Start up this morning with some errors loading stuff (NAV2005) Now it doesnt load up & My Printer wont work.
#19.1 Sticktron on 30 Jun 2004 - 15:54
Ya i'm getting errors this morning too, says it can't open a bunch of core NAV files. It's causing system problems, so un-install it is.
#20 memodude on 30 Jun 2004 - 15:48
I put NAV2005 on my test machine specifically to be one of the first 50 bug submitters.
#21 fdlazarte on 30 Jun 2004 - 21:19
NAV 2003 still rocks!
#22 rudedogs on 01 Jul 2004 - 01:18
Just for the record, they pulled the public beta today, we or curently testing a few builds more then a new build should be added tonight.
#23 Eduardo on 05 Jul 2004 - 01:40
If your have Symantec shares, I suggest you to sell them now.
In the moment MS start selling their own antivirus, Symantec is going broke.

They have no idea haw to make software and keep their markets share. I hate Norton Antivirus as much as I have pcAnyware (a fine software sometime ago)
