Tag&Rename is a program for organizing and archiving your library of music files. It's solid design handles both the .mp3 and .vqf music formats. You can quickly and easily rename your music while also editing the embedded tag data used by popular music players - both ID3 and ID3 v2 formats. It makes it easy to edit existing tag information, update for new tagging standards, or write tags for music files which had no previously embedded tags. It simplifies the boring and time-consuming task of updating tag information for your music by allowing you to quickly get information from the 'CDDB' database or other sites. It can also write or edit tag information based on your music libraries file structure. Often, many files can be processed with a few clicks using the built-in automated features.

Changes in this version:

  • Added APEv2 tags support muse pack, monkey's audio, wav pack and optim frog formats)
  • Added support for native flac tags
  • Added all kind of mp4 files support
  • Added support for new frames: Rating, Mood, Disc #, Orchestra, Conductor, Lyricist, Original lyricist, File page, Artist page, Source page, Radio station name, Radio station page, Buy CD page, ISRC #, Label title, Catalog #
  • Added option to save ID3v2 tags data in Unicode
  • Redesigned program toolbars

I wonder why he has a DVDR drive.

Anyway... This app is nice, wich is rather rare among 'automated' ID3 taging~ and such, plus it has support for alot of formats.

I agree. I tried so many pieces of crap that once I ran across Tag&Rename I thought I had gone to heaven. Now that I am really good with the program it takes me seconds to do what normally would have taken minutes & hours.

It's definitely the "cream of the crop".

I remember locking myself in my room and correctly tagging and renaming my music collection about a year ago. I had about 5,500 mp3's and did them all. I was so happy it had the CDDB feature, it saved me lots of time. Now with over 10,000 files, I keep them correctly tagged. I had no life a year ago, so yea.

what about Abander TagControl? Has anybody tried it?
Quote this comment #6.1 Posted by Galley on 03 Jul 2004 - 01:55
Yes, it's number two on my list. One very nice feature it has it the ability to create custom file tree structures. Genre/Artist/Album comes in very handy.

That is a lot of buttons for a program of this nature. I'll give it a shot, but TagScanner already does everything that I need for free.

Bleh, I get an instant crash when I go to launch it from install... maybe my 20 day uptime on my desktop is finally lagging up? :|

I assume you think 20 days is significant? Maybe on Win3.1....
Welcome to the 21st century.

It's significant for me--running without a UPS on a not-so-trustworthy power grid, my hardware isn't that craptacular, etc. It's my longest uptime, eat it.

I guess they miss the "brush my teeth" button, all the other buttons and checkboxes in the world are in the main window, LOL
