This is handy indeed. Easier to see at a glance which (pr0n) folders are taking up the most space

can't someone just build a folder size addon for windows explorer?
Quote this comment #5.2 Posted by MoveaxManager on 18 Jul 2004 - 03:54
We can and we do. TotalSize is Windows Explorer addon.

By the way, you don't need run manager at windows start up. Use it only for changing TotalSize settings.

Just install and add new column to Windows Explorer (as it described in help file). Enjoy

Thanks for a great addon MoveaxManager, it certainly makes management of my HDDs easier

I can't believe MS didn't think of adding such a column to Windows Explorer in the first place!

I'll stick with ExplorerXP. Does everything I need.

Wow, I'm impressed with this utility. I burn alot of data cd's at work and this utility will allow me to pick which folder to add and not exceed the 700mb limit. I currently use Nero and will drag folders to the burn window to get the size info. Now I don't have to do that. Just another way my life is easier thanks to a simple utility.

I'm sure MS will steal MoveaxManager's idea and put it in Longhorn....

Its a nice little utility. Not very complex, but nice.

My only gripe is that it slows down explorer considerably. I move very fast through explorer and I find with this installed sometimes when browsing to a new folder quickly, explorer locks up for ~1-2 seconds as explorer waits for the TotalSize shell extension to complete scanning through a folder (sometimes very large folders).

Can you describe what did you mean when say "Not very complex" (want to see more functionality or what)

May be you sorting by size in Windows Explorer? (in this case Explorer will wait for TotalSize complete calculations, in other cases folder size must calculate on background). We describe this slow down in FAQ.
In TotalSize we try optimize calculations algorithm as possible (with exact sizes in results).

Anyway, you can use TotalSize manager tray mode in order to fast turn on and off folder size calculation (set "files only" for view like Explorer default).

PS: Thanks for all replys.
