QUOTE (#4.0) BOYKOT REAL
I hate Real as much as the next man, but I hope for your sake this was a sarcastic stab at A0Lers.

#5 Posted by Zepolcire on 19 Jul 2004 - 18:21
- The only reason I have Real installed is because it supports the ATI Fullstream which I like when watching movies from Gamespot. Other than that, it is total crap.

- I use this to trasnfer music to my Net MD player, I just installed this new build and I see no physical changes.

- Wow, sure don't envy you Windows users. Real ported their software to linux, but without the spyware crap and an actual good interface.

- Yeah, it looks a lot less cluttered. I personally hate the RealOne/RealPlayer 10 interface, it crashes often and has poor redraw speeds when moving the window.

- not for me

- Yeah, the Linux version looks good.

- I like RealPlayer 10. Best version they've came out with for years. Real team, if you read this, I know you get a lot of sh!t from users but some of us are out there knowing how hard you are trying to improve this piece of software.
If you experience problems you can discuss Realplayer 10 in this thread at doom9.org with one of the Real developers that posts there:

- I tried it on the basis that lots of people said that the new version was great. So, I actually went into it with an open mind... still, the interface was awful, it was slow, it crashed when I first opened it (and several times subsequently) and the install still makes you register your email address with them.
They need to dramatically change things in order to gain users. The interface is huge and looks abysmal; the phase for big and bright applications has been and gone, and people prefer clean, uncluttered and minimalist style apps. I like the Real format, because it streams well, but the main program is near unusuable because of poor design.

-
#10.2 Posted by [ timko ] on 19 Jul 2004 - 20:03
- Indeed. Most websites nowadays realise that people don't necessarily like Real and offer their viewers QT and WMP formats instead. Much better, especially with WMP where it already comes with Windows therefore no extra installation of software is required (unlike QT and Real).

- Realplayer is great...for me to POOOP ON!
Just promise me none of you give them $$$

#12 Posted by TGD on 19 Jul 2004 - 20:11
- It's really not that bad. If you don't want to use it, fine, but don't **** all over it. I don't use the player, but I use their codec, and it's pretty effective.

- realplayer has a nice design and is doing something good by making all those things play in a single player. too bad its history has been a depressing one, perhaps they are finally making a turn around.

- Exactly. The best lessons in life are the mistakes you've made. I don't mind having Real10 installed, at all, on my machine. Also works a hell of a lot better than WMP, in firefox.

- I'll wait for K-Lite to update their Mega Codec Pack to include the updated RealPlayer (Real Alternative). I love having all my codecs player through one player and not having to run different players all the time.

- What spyware is in Realplayer 10? I want to know.
-
#20.1 Posted by Danrarbc641 on 19 Jul 2004 - 23:52
- I'll post the long list below;
QUOTE
That's right. Zip, zero, ziltch, nada, etc...
I was a Real hater too, and I haven't reinstalled Real Player 10 since my last reformat, but 10 is a massive improvement and I don't mind having it on my system anymore -- I just don't come across very many Real Media anymore. -
#20.3 Posted by Pookster on 20 Jul 2004 - 02:45
- I don't think there's spyware.. but RealPlayer calls home A LOT! My firewall detects it calling home at least once an hour.
-
#20.4 Posted by Mr Mialo on 20 Jul 2004 - 04:55
- Then try this,
QUOTE Then go to Tools->Preferences->Automatic Services, Click Configure Message Center, then uncheck "Check for new messages". Click OK on the "warning" that comes up. Now you will never see the Message Center. In previous versions, you could not disable the Message Center completely, without deleting certain files. Minor improvement, it's still opt-out, but at least it's possible. In the same menu, check or uncheck Auto-update in its sub-menu as well.

- Have you people even tried RealPlayer recently? Its far better than Windows Media Player and (absoloutly terrible) iTunes.
-
#21.1 Posted by aaroniekins on 20 Jul 2004 - 01:14
- that was a retarded comment
-
#21.2 Posted by Inq on 20 Jul 2004 - 10:13
- Anyone who says realplayer is a good program is automatically considered as a troll or a realplayer employee, or both.
-
#21.3 Posted by virtorio on 20 Jul 2004 - 10:18
- I'll take that as a no. RealPlayer10 is faster than the both (WMP and iTunes) of them and more stable than iTunes (which I have had cause blue screen's while playing music). What the fuc*k is your problem? Yes, Real is a terrible company, but there isn't anything wrong with their player.
-
#21.4 Posted by aaroniekins on 20 Jul 2004 - 15:04
- plenty wrong with the company
theres LOTS of media players out there, capable of much more
ever heard of Videolan, give it a try
Real has a rep of makin crappy things
-
#22 Posted by gflores on 20 Jul 2004 - 02:32
- I just don't see the point in installing such a large program. Hell, I would uninstall WMP9 if I could. I would much rather use the lean Media Player Classic with Real Alternative.
-
#23 Posted by Slacker on 20 Jul 2004 - 03:59
- Just Die already... sell the company while you still can!!!

Seriously, RealPlayer 10 plays nearly every codec on the market, and has a fantastic interface.

- Goddamn. Do you people have nothing better to do than to go to any page containing anything relevent to Real Networks and their player and bitch about **** you probably haven't even tried?
It's ****ing pathetic. You take anything in the world, even a ****ing iPod, which all the trendwhores of Neowin would gladly orgasm over it, put a sticker on it that says Real and instantly those wanna have sex with an iPod people will want to hunt it down with pitchforks and torches.
Jesus christ I can't get over how lame it is. 'Omg lolz Real they suxorz lol'
Wow, their player used to have spyware in it, the worlds gonna ****ing end, isn't it? As far as I know, it doesn't now.
Sure, the interface may be clunky and you might not like having to register your email, but the way you ****ing acting like you're going to catch the Boubonic Plague if you say anything remotely positive about this application is ****ing childish and ridiculous.
****ing get over it already. Don't like the player, don't use it. No one is forcing you to try this.
(For the record, I'm someone who hasn't used a Real application for over 2 years and have no intentions of downloading this new version, you anti-Real hippies just piss me off, despite prettymuch agreeing with you) -
#26.1 Posted by Netaku on 20 Jul 2004 - 07:15
- Do you have nothing better to do than whine because Real ran their **** so far into the ground that no one gives a **** to talk about them anymore beyond "Real sucks?"
People are coming to the conclusion that anything having to do with Real is crap. Well whoopidy-****; it's not worth getting upset over, because it's generally true. -
#26.2 Posted by Raum on 20 Jul 2004 - 07:49
- I've got plenty of better things to do, but instead I'm sitting on my bed at 4 am posting about why people are idiots.

Updates
According to the article at MSNBC, the new iPod will also contain the following features:
Personally, I am hoping that some of these new features will be made available to existing users through firmware updates. I guess we will just have wait and see...
