Curious as to how many people DON'T have the .NET framework installed? What good is it other than to automatically sign you in at MS sites? I've never put it on any of my systems.
#2.1 Kormac on 31 Aug 2004 - 14:08
Umm.. you're confusing .Net Passport (signs you into web sites) with the .Net Framework (VM that runs managed code, such as C#, J#, Managed C++ code).

If you're running C# apps (or any of the .Net languages) then you have the .Net runtime installed.

I m not a developer just a user, I have .net runtime 1.1 that was about 23 MB, do I need this Service pack, if I do, tell me , can I delete the old 23 MB pack, & from now on only use this SP to install .net runtime 1.1, cos the file size is only 10 MB I guess it is not the full pack, but updates over .net runtime 1.1

Do I need it on Runtime only at all
#3.1 figgy on 31 Aug 2004 - 15:33
Yes you should update your installtaion by runiing this Service Pack.
Since this is an update it will overwrite files from your previous 1.1 installation.

The update installation will not work if you don't have .net 1.1 already installed.
Therefore do not uninstall the previous version.

thanks....can slipstream this into .NET Framework 1.1 Gold on a slipstream SP2 Win XP disc?
#4.1 T-Metal on 31 Aug 2004 - 15:41
Yeah, how do you slipstream .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 into Windows XP SP2? As far as I know nLite doesn't have that option yet.
#4.2 Skyfrog on 31 Aug 2004 - 16:20
I don't think you can slipstream it; has to be installed separately.

Oh dear, another one, what's with the hatred today?

I ask a simple question and you have to post your nasty comments, really, go scream outside if you need to vent, but stop bashing everyone who posts something you don't agree with.

This is included as an extra (along with the .NET 1.1 redistributable) on the MSDN Windows XP SP2 CD, so some people may already have it and not realise.
#6.1 Skyfrog on 31 Aug 2004 - 16:10
I just got my SP2 CD from Microsoft today and it has the 1.1 redistributable but I don't see this update. Is it only on the MSDN version?
#6.2 sjgore on 31 Aug 2004 - 16:59
Run setup.exe in the DOTNETFX directory, and it will install .NET 1.1 and then .NET 1.1 Service Pack 1.
#6.3 Skyfrog on 31 Aug 2004 - 17:15
Thanks, I overlooked it the first time but it is there (NDPSP.EXE)

.net framework seems to improve a pc's performace and stuff
plus some apps may need it
even so it's worth using even if your not using .net apps

Just to inform you because I am big .NET fan. No it won't speed up your PC...it is needed from the applications of the near future. Soon there will be lots of applications which will require .NET to run. These applications will be high performance and reliable too. Windows Longhorn will be written in .NET code (the applications not the OS ). It will be the most advanced OS ever made.
#9 imtoomuch on 31 Aug 2004 - 21:31
I wonder why this isn't on Windows Update.
#10 anog on 31 Aug 2004 - 23:20
Well, good to see that nobody posted this in the official beta newsgroup...
I was in that beta, but there were few to none MS employees posting in the NG... And very very very very few beta testers too...

I find it funny how so many people on these message boards/comments DONT know what they are talking about when it comes to the .NET Framework.
#11.1 antareus on 01 Sep 2004 - 13:20
Most people don't know what they're talking about on this site in general.

if you're a computer "techie", then all you know is what someone else told you. I've seen techies that don't know their ass from a whole in the ground.
#13.2 antareus on 01 Sep 2004 - 13:21
Most "techies" know enough to be dangerous.

Which isn't enough.

I posted this on the webforum yesterday, almost half a day before it was reported here. Nobody commented on my post, and half a day later it seems EVERYBODY needs to comment about it here. LOL
#15 pckiller00 on 01 Sep 2004 - 12:38
well you'd be surprised what software now that requires the .Net framework, one that I know that I use quite frequently is WinXP Manager, it requires the framework in order to run the installer and the program.
#16 soldier1st on 02 Sep 2004 - 03:36
no1 told me anything
i proved them and they seemed right
thats where it's good to have a *testing pc*heard of that?probably not
hehehe
#17 Xion on 02 Sep 2004 - 17:56
How can I check if this update is installed.
#18 ~*McoreD*~ on 03 Sep 2004 - 04:32
