- What IS the big difference between Photoshop & Photoshop Elements...???
-
#8.1 Posted by dougkinzinger on 16 Sep 2004 - 04:20
- Good gravy, yes:
Photoshop = Professional users
Photoshop Elements = Completely different package for home users with the "Photoshop" moniker.
They barely share any of the same code. -

- Ooh.. well I'm not an expert, but I have both photoshop and photoshop elements software, and i don't really notice anything different about the two...

QUOTE They barely share any of the same code.
You wouldn't be exaggerating just a bit would you? Elements is just a stripped down version of Photoshop for home users, but it's based largely on the same code. You can even enable many of the professional features such as curves and channels; see the site below.

- Good call. Perhaps I was being a little to hasty.

- Another Major difference is the price.

- I also am a tester (among other things, if you've read my forums posts
); it's definitely as good as it looks, especially with its integration of Album for the Windows version. You can finally get rid of the frustrating photo management and editing software that came with your camera, all for one, decent price

- How does it compare against JASC PaintShop Pro 9?

- I had to give up PS Elements 1 as I sold the camera I got it with. I heard rumblings of the new version so I'm using a 30day trial of ver2 till the new one is out. I'm glad I did now. Integrating album is great as I use the starter edition of that too.
I tried evaluating alternatives to PS E as I use PS CS at work and none seemed to be as intuitive to me (then again I've been using PS since version 3 so I hardly impartial). Paintshop Pro fans will no doubt be more enthused by PSP 9 which is fine.
Can anyone comment on whether the font spacing has been fixed on the text tool? its really wide at the moment.

- all these programs and Picasa don't work if you keep reinstalling Windows, causing all the timestamps on your pictures to disappear.

Other new features include improved red eye removal and support for Camera Raw functionality for the processing of raw data and 16-bit images for the brightest and most life-like color. Adobe said that the updated editing tools "instantly click away imperfections, transform photos with effects and filters, and correct color and lighting."
Photoshop Elements 3.0 also sports a new and improved file browser that allows users to find their photos more quickly by searching for photos based on a wide range of criteria, including the date and time the photo was taken, the type of camera that was used and the name of the person who shot the photo. In addition, the new version offers new ways to share photos, including Adobe PDF slideshows with music and transitions.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 is priced at US$89.99 and will ship "later this fall."
Thanks to xxpor for the heads-up on this bit
