WSH is a very useful tool that allows you to directly run VBScript, JScript and XML encoded scripts natively within the operating system.

WSH 5.6 is distributed with windows xp (it's 3 years old) so this is old news.

No its not old news, when you look @ MS site you see:
Date Published:

They should have stated in the article that it's v5.6.0.8825. I thought the were saying about 5.6.0.0

#5.1 madhon on 19 Sep 2004 - 13:23
yes
#6 Glen on 19 Sep 2004 - 14:45
OK, so it has a new version #. Does anyone know what the changes are from XP-SP2?

OOI the version in XP SP2 is being reported as 5.6.0.8820.
Be careful about using this on 9x, the last build of WS5.6 broke MSIE under it. The recovery steps are not all that fun.

It`s also handy to keep on file because when you uninstall stuff like Norton Firewall-they suggest reinstalling Windows script 5.6 as part of the process.

Yes as it's normally used for development. Though why it needs a frickin reboot is beyond me. Also, what's so new about this version? Even more undocumented features (like Escape in VBScript)?

I'd like to know what's new... I use WSH a lot but what's the point of updating if no new featuers are really added?
#10.1 Surr3al on 20 Sep 2004 - 16:00
I found this:
... I emailed the WSH team ...

...and the gist of the reply was

"... The changes primarily cover stability and stress fixes that went into
XP SP2 and hotfix (qfe) roll ups. ..."

If I get anything more specific, I'll post on this thread.

So, it's mostly for Service Pack 2, I guess.
