watta hell, bills call his 3 years old little friend to do this? this is poor poor poor (and funcionality are in other apps over the net, so 100% unusseful). Maybe programmers at microsoft should start make coffee instead.
#5.1 Miran on 21 Sep 2004 - 14:31
LOL! I was talking to my prof yesterday.. He was saying if most large companies paid 80% of their worst programmers to stay home, they would still make more money in the long run..
(6 replies) #6 BananaMan on 21 Sep 2004 - 14:39
Wow, that really is ugly. I literally laughed out loud.

SS:

#6.2 BananaMan on 21 Sep 2004 - 15:57
Thanks for being condescending, because you know, it was so called for!
#6.3 Cmdr. Grunt on 21 Sep 2004 - 23:30

I guess all Microsoft's Human Interface people are busy on Longhorn, so they had to draw straws to see who got this one
#6.4 imtoomuch on 22 Sep 2004 - 00:20
And that screenshot is for?
#6.5 fr3ak on 22 Sep 2004 - 14:30
for showing how sweetly apple have done it I assume
#6.6 Alpha Binary on 24 Sep 2004 - 11:56

#7 rIaHc3 on 21 Sep 2004 - 14:39
hmm is there a version for Windows 9x?
#8 slowestborg on 21 Sep 2004 - 14:47
why is everyone bitching about the new look? I think its cool.
Besides you can always switch to the classic view.
(1 reply) #9 shaark on 21 Sep 2004 - 15:09
i already validated my windows before, why do i have to do it for each download
#9.1 kronik on 21 Sep 2004 - 15:53
hehe I have no idea why MS have included this, you can still skip the process and d/l with bad S/N
(1 reply) #10 antareus on 21 Sep 2004 - 16:15
For an MS product, the UI is piss-poor. No File menu, the last item on the edit menu is "Import ECB Rates" and the Currencies menu item needs an ellipsis after it since it brings up a dialog box requiring further input.
#10.1 Rudy on 21 Sep 2004 - 21:54
even the regular calculator doesnt have one.....now why would you want a file menu for a calculator?? load/save previous calculations?? lol
#11 scottyman on 21 Sep 2004 - 16:37
what's even more bizarre is that the currencies aren't available properly - it's quicker and easier to go to a currency website to get the day's rates and drop it into a speadsheet!
#12 AngelicRaver on 21 Sep 2004 - 16:39
o.o *looks at design* Kill it! Kill it! Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!
(1 reply) #13 phkhoury on 21 Sep 2004 - 17:21
The Power Toy Calculator is way better. Why make another calc?
#13.1 fAthom on 22 Sep 2004 - 02:09
Microsoft is probably targeting users who want a little more functionality but not the "command-ish" interface that PowerCalc uses.
#14 alan8it on 21 Sep 2004 - 17:33
It is really an ugly calc. I really don't like when you switch from one mode to another that the application stops and restarts. Stupid.
#15 3dtiger on 21 Sep 2004 - 17:36
i like the new design...!
#16 chisss on 21 Sep 2004 - 17:54
what's up with Microsoft going all blue now? They wanna be the new "BIG BLUE" now?
#17 MSN6 on 21 Sep 2004 - 18:15
What are the other free tools from microsoft other than this and Visual keyboard?
#18 vetBroChaos on 21 Sep 2004 - 18:19
lol, that is funny lookin. i'll just stick with convert.exe
(1 reply) #19 XChrome on 21 Sep 2004 - 18:26
I like how what is really important about this download is the verification that you own a legit copy of windows.
#19.1 Skid on 21 Sep 2004 - 22:56
I downloaded a hotfix and had to verify my copy of windows i think ms are doing this with all there downloads from now on... Pretty stupid if you ask me
#20 funkyMonkey on 21 Sep 2004 - 18:28

it looks like my first VB project in school
#21 electic102 on 21 Sep 2004 - 18:43
Embarassing for MS to even post that.
#22 esaleris on 21 Sep 2004 - 19:02
The Calculator that comes with Microsoft's PowerToys is much better. PowerCalc I think it's called, can operate all the functions of this one and can also graph. It's basically the equivalent of a graphing calculator and can even do Polish notation.
#23 fobban on 21 Sep 2004 - 19:24
This caluclator is by far the most ugly application I've ever seen
#24 cjphilogelos on 21 Sep 2004 - 19:48
MS released a much better calc with graphing capabilities long ago. Part of the XP power tools.
#25 nw_raptor on 21 Sep 2004 - 20:35
no thanks... from that screenshot i say i'll stick to the powertoy calc
(2 replies) #26 mr_da3m0n on 21 Sep 2004 - 21:11
Wow. A currency converter that does not even offers support for Canadian Dollars...
#26.1 travis.cd on 21 Sep 2004 - 22:06
ouch, seriously?
#26.2 Cmdr. Grunt on 21 Sep 2004 - 23:39
Heh, see above. It's odd but it seems alot of their software seems to be missing at least one head scratching feature, like why would they not have it?

Not a fanatic, as I sit and type this on my homebrew, but find it amusing the screenshot I found off google demonstrates ALL the features missing from Microsoft's calculator...
#27 docvenom04 on 21 Sep 2004 - 21:43
#28 ph33rm3 on 21 Sep 2004 - 21:47
pretty old......
#29 StarSabers on 21 Sep 2004 - 21:54
Pretty bad. I'll stick with GOOGLE for conversions and I'll stick with my PowerToy Calculator from Microsoft for my math ... this program makes MS look like ... umm ... a hole in the wall.
#30 GeeZuZz on 21 Sep 2004 - 22:20
Uhm, why would someone download a ugly calculator, when you already have the same calculator built-in in windows? You don't even need to switch to classic view with the built in...
#31 b0b on 21 Sep 2004 - 23:43
Actually, I would like it if you could make the interface transparent.
#32 Ji@nBing on 22 Sep 2004 - 00:48
Oh wow!! I mean, WOW!! Is this some kind of joke? They can't be serious about that UI. They were probably laughing thier asses off when designing this . It looks like an old and particulary bad WB skin.
#33 Moonsinner on 22 Sep 2004 - 07:07
this is something really ugly...
#34 Yvo on 22 Sep 2004 - 07:32
Kind of sad... the currencys has dead european monetary units, but no US Dollar or Canadian dollar.

I'll keep using XE.com for my currency needs.
#35 DOGglee on 22 Sep 2004 - 07:36
oww, ugly
#36 SonDaniel on 22 Sep 2004 - 11:27
OH MY ****IN GOD!!!

Yeah yeah i know...but it had to be said again...THOSE DEVELOPERS SHOULD NEVER AGAIN MAKE A GUI
#37 fantasi on 22 Sep 2004 - 15:15
ugly as hell...isnt this feature aready present at the powertoys calculator? that seems emm better lookin then this crap..oh well
#38 alpoinacan on 22 Sep 2004 - 20:20
Maybe someones 3 year old kid designed the interface for this one. The only surprise is it isn't pink.
(1 reply) #39 IntelliMoo on 22 Sep 2004 - 20:34
LMAO! Freakazoids. hehe While the default ugly mode does look like some linux crap skin, there is a classic view setting that makes the calulcator look just like the Windows one. In fact, it looks EXACTLY like the Windows one in standard and scientific modes. So lay off the programmers and pick on the idiot who probably thought making that uglyass skin the default would appeal to linux users or something!
#39.1 russellc on 23 Sep 2004 - 04:25
its pretty much useless...its exactly the same as the original windows calculator...except with conversion rates...the powertoys for xp calculator was alot more useful than this...i was hoping for something like that
#40 Prasanth on 24 Sep 2004 - 06:38
