VMware Workstation features the ability to run multiple operating systems on the same PC without the need to partition the hard drive, or rebooting. It allows users to interoperate among each of these operating systems, including full networking, device and file sharing, and cut-and-paste capabilities, and undo changes made in a given session.

This beta build contains no new features but many bugs have been fixed.

SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade from either Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) to Windows XP, the game port devices may not be available.

CAUSE
This problem can occur because the upgrade process has not automatically upgraded the game port devices. The drivers and the configuration of game port devices is different in Windows XP in comparison to Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, add the game port devices after the upgrade process is completed. In Control Panel, double-click Game Controllers, click Add, and then add the devices.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION
This problem is known to occur with Microsoft SideWinder Game Pad (a game controller).

Umm... why not? Do you really know what this is for? Well, actually..if you are having to install it on someones computer, chances are they don't need it.

In anycase, it is freaken awesome software. So i don't see what your hang up is.

This sounds promising. I can't wait for the 64 bit support they are talking about - now I'll be able to test the new linux distros without creating a whole new partition.

Wow i've just installed this build and i have to say its much better than the previous vmware5 build, even though its slower than 4.5 cause of the heavy weight debug code its still considerably faster than VirtualPC

VMWare is rock solid for me and has been since I've been using version 3 and 4. I don't see how other people manage to fug their systems up

Stick to using virtual disks for your VMs rather than allowing raw access and you should be fine.

Vmware is one of those niche products. If you need what Vmware offers then the program is great. If you don't need it, then who cares.

I test software builds and have used both Virtual PC and Vmware. Both get the job done but Vmware has more features and is solid. This one feature is why I prefer Vmware over Virtual PC.

I can setup a Windows98, XP, and Linux virtual machine on a single computer. Load the program I'm testing into each virtual machine then test it's features. If something goes haywire I revert back to my original configuration with a single mouse click. The developer then makes the needed changes, uploads to me, then I'm back to testing again.

Vmware is a great time saver for me and look forwarrd to the final. Their tech support is awesome and goes the extra mile for me when weird problems crop up.
