The "new linux interface" doesn't look new at all It still looks like a Windows app on Linux.

I don't know if you're a fool, but I certainly think you could open your eyes wider

The new Linux interface is clearly GTK'ized -- which looks great.

Oh, and it rocks. Everyone should try it. Now.

How does this version compares, in terms of speed, to VMware 4.5.2?

Does anyone know when they plan on going final?
Quote this comment #2.1 Posted by Hurmoth on 18 Feb 2005 - 11:28
I don't know about speed, but the new features that 5 has are awesome. Cloning, and linked cloning are just awesome!

In terms of speed i've noticed it improving throughout the betas i'd says its now alot quicker than 4.5.2, gragging and droping files from host to windows gest is noticably faster

If I try this out during beta, I'll I be able to use th VM's I create in the final version or I'll need to reinstall all of them? Or I will be able to use them but it's not recommended?
Quote this comment #3.1 Posted by PermaSt0ne on 18 Feb 2005 - 21:21
aye, you'd be able to use them later. depending on what chages between now and the final version you'll probibly have to update your vm machines to work with the final one. and i dono what happens when you do that

Can't wait. I'll give it a try when it's final. Direct3D will be interesting, even if it works only on NT-Class guests.

What are the advantages of this over Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004?
Quote this comment #9.1 Posted by Hurmoth on 19 Feb 2005 - 02:38
More features, better features. Faster, more secure, etc.

So it would be fine for a home user like me to install Windows 95 or Windows 2000 on it?
Quote this comment #9.3 Posted by figgy on 19 Feb 2005 - 06:17
VMWare crashes a lot.
I never had any system crashes due to VirtualPC

Rubbish. Ive been using VMware for years and it hasn't crashed once on me.
Quote this comment #9.5 Posted by figgy on 19 Feb 2005 - 16:03
Not Rubbish. My personal experience.
Would have been ok if only VMware crashes, but it brings down the whole system.
I never had such experinece with any other app on my system.
Quote this comment #9.6 Posted by Hurmoth on 19 Feb 2005 - 19:03
I have never had VMware crash on me, but again that's just my personal experience. It really depends on your system too... VMware takes up more system resources because it has more features, so if you don't have a system that can handle it, then it will crash.
Quote this comment #9.7 Posted by mr_da3m0n on 19 Feb 2005 - 19:55
Virtual PC is crap, if you ask me. It is slow as hell, lacks the convenient features of vmware and.. well it is slow as hell.

i'll test slackware 10.1 on it
