Advertisement (Why?)
Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1 has just been released. A minor update, this version fixes a few security holes and some other bugs. If you're currently using Firefox 1.0, you want to install this release.

Firefox 1.0.1 is a "branch build" serving as an interim update to Firefox 1.0. It addresses critical security and performance issues that resulted after the release of Firefox 1.0.

This build is NOT to be confused with recent Mozilla 1.0+ nightly "trunk" builds.

You can install straight over 1.0. All extensions and themes should still work, this was vigorously tested for a week to make sure no problems would occur with upgrading

sorry about that...zip build torrent now working. Just to make it clear, these torrents are officially hosted by mozilla.org

Do not install over previous builds: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=247884

Backup your favorites and uninstall the current version for a cleaner install.
#1.4 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 07:01
stop trolling. All this release is, is 1.0 + security fixes. Nothing is going to happen to your profile.
#1.5 mko on 25 Feb 2005 - 07:03
doesn't that only apply to 0.8 -> 0.9 upgrade as that bug report says?
#1.6 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 07:05
that bug is nothing more then a GUI bug basically. nothing bad going to happen with another entry, and you can always remove it manually anyways.
#2 capeche on 25 Feb 2005 - 03:36
Fantastic!
(1 reply) #3 snips on 25 Feb 2005 - 03:37
So can we just install this over 1.0?
#3.1 nienor on 25 Feb 2005 - 03:50

The British one is still 1.0.

#4.1 StuRReaL on 25 Feb 2005 - 10:39
lets hope they get the british build up there soon cause I loath and detest american english spellings.
#4.2 kirk26 on 25 Feb 2005 - 12:19
We love you too.
#4.3 nic on 25 Feb 2005 - 16:55
well i loath how you spell color.

It isn't colour its color!!

actually both ways of spelling it seem lame... we should come up with a different word for color!
#4.4 mr_da3m0n on 25 Feb 2005 - 19:35
Chromatic hues?

---
uh...

That was
supposed to be a reply to the person making the new word for colour/color. How it got at the top is beyond me.
#4.5 zivan56 on 26 Feb 2005 - 01:39
Lets all go to the bank and check our cheques for the rights colored colour stripes

Is nightly build firefox 1.0+ stabler than 1.0.1? I am kind of confused. Does anyone prefer using nightly builds? Please let me know.
#5.1 tibi08 on 25 Feb 2005 - 12:34
Do you mean "more stable"?
#5.2 Papias115 on 25 Feb 2005 - 16:27
"stabler" is equivalent to "more stable" See Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. However, it would be wrong English usage to say, "more stabler" for that is redundant.
#5.3 Jstphish on 25 Feb 2005 - 17:56
"Ain't" is also in the dictionary but is considered bad grammar just as using "stabler" would be bad grammar.
#5.4 Papias115 on 26 Feb 2005 - 01:42
"stabler" is an INFLECTED FORM of the word, "stable" and that is a proper English word and it was so used in the sentence properly.
#5.5 capeche on 26 Feb 2005 - 01:56
Generally speaking, any adjective with one or two syllables can be modified with -er and -est to express degree. There's nothing wrong grammatically with "stabler", but the word also means a "stable-keeper"...
(1 reply) #6 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 03:50
1.0.1 is a lot more stable. the trunk nightly is basically alpha code...lots of bugs
#6.1 [HUSKY] on 25 Feb 2005 - 04:10
i've noticed 1.0.1 runs a bit faster than the trunk.. still alot to go in terms of development work i guess...
#7 EduardValencia on 25 Feb 2005 - 03:53
very good,i'm downloading it now, hope we get IE7 soon as posible too
#8 smashguy on 25 Feb 2005 - 04:09

how about all the themes and extensions for 1.0 ... do they still work with this release ?
#12.1 dpm on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:00
No, and the guy below lies. I've had this problem every single update and it is a pain in the ass waiting weeks for the creators of the extensions to change their version strings.

"When you upgrade to a new version of Firefox all of your Extensions and Themes will be disabled until Firefox determines that either a) they are compatible with the new release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible." from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/#extensions
#12.2 Ianmac45 on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:09
all of my themes and extensions worked in 1.0.1

You are the one who's lying. Have you *tried* this release? I'm guessing not. How dare you accuse Ianmac45 of lying when you haven't tried it yourself.

Extensions get disabled when there are major changes to Firefox's theme/extension code. This release is all security fixes. Ianmac45 is completely right--all themes and extensions work in 1.0.1 (I have 12 extensions installed currently and 7 themes). Of course things got disabled during previous releases (going from 0.9 to 1.0 was a huge leap and change in code). That doesn't automatically mean every single release will be the same.
#13 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 05:04
Yes, as I stated in first post. Only issue I've heard of was with spellbound with one of the test builds the other night but I haven't heard anything since then and it was only one person reporting that.
#14 tm™ on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:01
Any word on when the MOOX build will be updated? ...M3 specifically...
#15 Ianmac45 on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:01
who doesn't use fx 1.0? as opposed to using the stone-aged version?
#16 kainashi on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:06
lots of seeds on the torrents. very nice.

#19.1 tm™ on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:21
try reading replies before posting...
In the first reply, supernova_00 said in bold text that you can install over your current version.

...Tell me...how stupid do you feel right now?
#19.2 panacea on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:39
lol. he added the bold text later
but thats what i thought. if it was not for the post below.
#19.3 tm™ on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:45
The bolded text was added before you posted, if I remember correctly.
The post below is incorrect.
(8 replies) #20 Caleb on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:20
DO NOT INSTALL OVER THE PREVIOUS VERSION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Export your favorites first, backup any other data.
Uninstall the current version, and then install the new one.
#20.1 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:42
um no. You can install or 1.0....trust me a lot of people throughly tested this build to make sure there were no problems.
#20.2 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:59
hmm
#20.3 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:59
I use zip builds becuase I download a new build every few hours and the zips don't show up in Add/Remove programs. Just because an entry shows in there does not mean you have to uninstall it. You made it sound like your computer is going to blow up or profile will get messed up if you install over 1.0. Both of those will definently not happen...only thing that will happen with installing over is the double firefox entries. And no need to backup your profile...this was vigourosly tested before the release to make sure nothing would happen with profiles, not that anything would have been different becuase this is a sercurity upgrade and those bugfixes had nothing to do with the profiles.
#20.4 anuosir on 25 Feb 2005 - 07:31
I've install over 1.0 now I have 1.0 and 1.0.1 in the add/remove programs. I want to remove the 1.0 from the add/remove programs without removing 1.0.1 is there anyways?? thanks

You can maually remove it in the registry (For XP maybe 2000)... here's how.. (Becareful, if you screwed up, you could be wasting your next 2 hours reinstalling windows)

1. start > Run > type 'REGEDIT'
2. Go to My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall
3. You'd see a bunch of registry entries go through each one of them and on the right side of the window, look for "DisplayName" with the value "Mozilla Firefox 1.0" or something like that.
4. Delete the desired entry... you're done.
#20.6 mdew on 25 Feb 2005 - 11:06
I upgraded 1.0->1.0.1 with no issues, all my extensions work, no data loss.
#20.7 Radium on 25 Feb 2005 - 15:21
The uninstall entries are in the same place on Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP.
I think that all the others have it in the same place. (except Windows 1/2/3)
#20.8 anuosir on 25 Feb 2005 - 23:10
Thanks for the tips. I use Ccleaner tools to delete the entry while having the regedit open at that spot you showed. Ccleaner delete it and there is no trace of it in the reg after so if someone want to delete it without messing around the registry use Ccleaner tools.

Oi. *smacks head*

YES you can use your profile from 1.0. I am doing that right now.
#23 eilegz on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:38
Thats one thing that mozilla team should focus in the future the way to import and export the whole profile including extensions, themes settings and bookmarks

Is a very hard and troublesome problem to install everything again anyways i use zip or 7z files so i dun need to install anything just unzip
#24 GTCaboose on 25 Feb 2005 - 06:44
I had to uninstall then reinstall all my extensions (I had a bunch), but all the settings were still intact when I reinstalled them! There's no reason not to download this

I installed 1.0.1 and couldn't do a thing. Every time I typed in a url FF just shutdown with no warning. Same thing when doing a search as well. I guess I'll just have to wait for FF 1.0.2
#26.1 BigMac44 on 28 Feb 2005 - 01:04
Apparently, I needed to uninstall 1.0, delete the folder, and reinstall. It is working fine now.

Strange problem though.

waiting for portable firefox 1.0.1

i cant install software here (office pc)
#27.1 supernova_00 on 25 Feb 2005 - 08:45
you can always use a zip build There is no way that every folder is write protected because you have to be able to save documents and internet temp files. At work I unzip into my documents. Can't use the installer to install into my documents becuase some other files are writen when using the installer like to the registry.
#28 DOGglee on 25 Feb 2005 - 09:14
great
(2 replies) #29 mrk on 25 Feb 2005 - 10:07
my firefox backup routine before upgrade

Download mozbackup and backup your profile (this wont save extensions but everything else is fine)

Download the LISTZILLA extension and export your extensions list as a HTML file (this creates version number and link to the extension download should you ever need to redownload it.

Install new ff after uninstalling current and wham all should be fine, if not then simply load back your profile in mozbackup ;o
#29.1 The_Decryptor on 25 Feb 2005 - 14:44
um, why not just backup your profile folder, that way you save extensions, bookmarks, settings and customisations.
#29.2 eilegz on 25 Feb 2005 - 20:40
that wont work i copy the profile folder from one pc to another and when i install firefox it wont load the profile

Hmm I found 1.0.1 to a lot less stable. Back to 1.0 PR i guess, it never crashes.

Both 1.0 and 1.0.1 are unstable for me. Strange.

auto update is being delayed a few days to help prevent the servers from being hammered to death.
#41 Jstphish on 25 Feb 2005 - 18:37
Bug Fix: "New Updates Avail" popup in bottom right-hand corner pops up endlessly.

Finally, I was sick of that.

Nice. Simple installation over previous version. All my present extentions still working properly.
(1 reply) #43 elliot on 25 Feb 2005 - 20:14
Well apart from the fact that installing over the old version didn't work, uninstalling and installing didn't work, and I had to delete my profile to get it to install... pretty smooth update! Good job mozilla!!

BTW I love Firefox, but they really, really, suck at updating.
#43.1 tvadakia on 26 Feb 2005 - 15:56
Funny, it seems to work for 99.9% of the other 26 million people who use it. Makes one wonder what unique sets of circumstances that .1% has. Does the upgrade process suck if .1% deem it so? In that case, I s'pose even IE blows, since it also has its .1%. And Windows XP, and Trillian, and... and... and...
