You can install straight over 1.0. All extensions and themes should still work, this was vigorously tested for a week to make sure no problems would occur with upgrading

Backup your favorites and uninstall the current version for a cleaner install.
Never uninstalled a firefox for upgrading before
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/all.html
It isn't colour its color!!
actually both ways of spelling it seem lame... we should come up with a different word for color!
---
uh...
That was
supposed to be a reply to the person making the new word for colour/color. How it got at the top is beyond me.
"When you upgrade to a new version of Firefox all of your Extensions and Themes will be disabled until Firefox determines that either a) they are compatible with the new release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible." from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/#extensions
You are the one who's lying. Have you *tried* this release? I'm guessing not. How dare you accuse Ianmac45 of lying when you haven't tried it yourself.
Extensions get disabled when there are major changes to Firefox's theme/extension code. This release is all security fixes. Ianmac45 is completely right--all themes and extensions work in 1.0.1 (I have 12 extensions installed currently and 7 themes). Of course things got disabled during previous releases (going from 0.9 to 1.0 was a huge leap and change in code). That doesn't automatically mean every single release will be the same.
In the first reply, supernova_00 said in bold text that you can install over your current version.
...Tell me...how stupid do you feel right now?
but thats what i thought. if it was not for the post below.
The post below is incorrect.
Export your favorites first, backup any other data.
Uninstall the current version, and then install the new one.
You can maually remove it in the registry (For XP maybe 2000)... here's how.. (Becareful, if you screwed up, you could be wasting your next 2 hours reinstalling windows)
1. start > Run > type 'REGEDIT'
2. Go to My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall
3. You'd see a bunch of registry entries go through each one of them and on the right side of the window, look for "DisplayName" with the value "Mozilla Firefox 1.0" or something like that.
4. Delete the desired entry... you're done.
I think that all the others have it in the same place. (except Windows 1/2/3)

YES you can use your profile from 1.0. I am doing that right now.
Is a very hard and troublesome problem to install everything again anyways i use zip or 7z files so i dun need to install anything just unzip
it is still good that this article didn't make frontpage so thank you.
Strange problem though.
i cant install software here (office pc)
Download mozbackup and backup your profile (this wont save extensions but everything else is fine)
Download the LISTZILLA extension and export your extensions list as a HTML file (this creates version number and link to the extension download should you ever need to redownload it.
Install new ff after uninstalling current and wham all should be fine, if not then simply load back your profile in mozbackup ;o
Both 1.0 and 1.0.1 are unstable for me. Strange.
it doesnt bring up the dropbox with remembered passwords anymore..
also when i try to search from the toolbar it crashes
horrible release..

Finally, I was sick of that.
BTW I love Firefox, but they really, really, suck at updating.
