After a long while, Opera 8's second beta has been unofficially released. No changelog has been posted yet, but will appear once it is officially released, which should be soon.

There are a few apparent changes such as the new Appearance settings and a new option to 'Report a site problem'.

Gmail and Google Maps works flawlessly in this version, and Hotmail supposedly works better. Here is a small changelog posted by an Opera Employee:

Improved Security
  • Fix for IDN spoofing, by introducing a whitelist for safe top-level domains - curently :no:jp:de:se:kr:tw:cn:at:dk:ch:li:. Sites not in the whitelist will show the encoded domain in the URL field. The list is updated automatically when Opera checks for a new version.
  • The padlock icon is now always visible for HTTPS servers, and the name of the organization owning the certificate is displayed in the URL field.
  • Support for the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) - real-time requests for certificate status.
  • Other smaller fixes and changes.
  • and more...
The Final version of Opera 8 is expected to be released very soon by the end of this month.

Update: Opera 8 Beta 2 is now official. Full Changelog now available. At this point only the Windows version is available.

Yeah, opera is being slammed left and right, even their mainpage is very slow. I'll try to update with mirrors as soon as possible.

I wondering how the EXIF support for JPGs will be implemented. I guess I will know in 12 minutes.

Here's some EXIF JPG's to compare with:
http://www.exif.org/samples.html

The "model" links takes you to the JPG's you can check by using "Image Properties", the "full info" links takes you to a page listing all info that was actually stored.

QUOTE
Ctrl+F11 works as keyboard shortcut for "Fit to window width" rather than "Disable main menu", which is now only available in opera6.ini.

guess i wont bother downloading it! ctrl+F11 is teh_Best :/

Why not just add it yourself?
Quote this comment #12.2 Posted by ArKeYa on 25 Feb 2005 - 18:59
Right. You can easily use alt F11 instead.
Quote this comment #12.3 Posted by alex. on 25 Feb 2005 - 22:28
ALT + F11 doesn't work for me
Quote this comment #12.4 Posted by ArKeYa on 27 Feb 2005 - 05:22
You have to edit your keyboard setup.

I guess only firefox deserves the frontpage huh?
Quote this comment #15.1 Posted by Fit4130Rider on 25 Feb 2005 - 18:44
Seriously, firefox isn't that cool.

This news post was on the first page @ first. Then moved here it seems. The only browser that get positive attention on the frontpage seem to be Firefox. That's what i meant.

I thought so too. The first time I've heard about the beta2 release I went straight ahead here to check but didn't find it at frontpage.

Not as big news because opera is not true freeware. It is shareware. Tell you the truth.. I still use IE over Firefox on many days. I must try this new beta.
Quote this comment #15.5 Posted by Jex on 26 Feb 2005 - 00:37
lol IE.
Quote this comment #15.6 Posted by HawkMan on 26 Feb 2005 - 01:16
Bilemke, you don't even know what shareware is do you ?

The funny thing is...is that IDN spoofing bugs came to attention in Firefox, Opera...you name it. Now, there are new versions coming out, if not already, that fix these issues. People came out of the walls from out of nowhere, as you guys always do....criticizing one browser over the other...and this and that...but, ....

Over at Bink, you see in the news that IDN spoofing was identified in Internet Explorer....all you hear is crickets....the sound of silence...

Here's one:
Title Bar Spoofing...
One Example

Phishing exploit...

Second Example

Funny thing is...is that the best of us use all these programs....each one for their specific qualities...the right tool, for the right job!

This is a great looking and very fast browser. I have been using Opera for almost a year now, and it does the job quite well. I have disabled all the messaging features though.

Using Opera on Solaris and on Windows.
I am using it for: e-mail using IMAP and POP3 servers, for browesing the Internet, for IRC chating.
There is now a feature, to report a website rendering problem in Opera. Right from the opera I can report a problem and Opera guys will look, and if this a popular website, they will either, contact the delevopers of the website so they could change the pages by the standards, or do some fixes in opera to render such pages correctlty.
They of course won't suppor ActiveX, but who cares?
