After many months of hard work we are proud to present the first public beta version of our new software product a-squared Anti-Spam. It's a desktop anti spam solution designed for personal users who are not able to use server side spam filtering or don't trust the spam filter of their internet service provider.

It currently only works with MS Outlook XP/2003 and Outlook Express 6, but this should cover more than 90% of all personal users in the first step. Additional email clients are on the todo list too. Please give it a try to test this version for bugs and crashes. Any feedback for improvements is welcome! :)

Download: Anti-Spam [Beta 2]

Please create a new topic in this public beta forum for each bug you have found. Please don't report any typos or little user interface display problems. We are still in beta stage. User interface is the last point on the todo list.

We are looking forward to your test results. :)

Known bugs which are still existent in this version:

  • 100% cpu load of lsass.exe and of antispamsrv.exe sometimes on recovery from hibernation mode
  • Outlook not closed sometimes with exchange accounts
  • Loading default learning lists take a while and highloading of CPU
  • Mark as spam in Outlook Express is moving to delete folder instead of aČ anti-spam junk folder
  • Select learning folder dialog only displays default pst file in Outlook
  • On no user selection of junk folder, a new default one is not created correctly

Personally, I prefer SpamBayes if I'm on an e-mail client where the antispam filtering isn't satisfactory. A nice thing about that one is also that it doesn't depend on which e-mail client you're using at all. It do have a special Outlook plugin though, for some convenience features, but it runs well in the proxy mode too. It also exist for Mac OS X and Linux which is another nice advantage. It seems to learn quite quickly and I used it for a long time even instead of Thunderbird's existing feature.

Did you even try this app out? It's not a "Post your favorite spam filter" thread. It's a news story on this particular spam filter. I think the author would like some feedback and not "use x instead".
