#1.1 MasterSpy on 11 Jun 2005 - 19:28
I agree. We need screenshots.
#1.2 metallithrax on 11 Jun 2005 - 20:06
Why do you need screen shots? You won't be sat looking at it all day or for any length of time. So does it really matter what it looks like?

I agree I feel a good GUI goes along way in a app, why can't someone spend a little time on interface. I like simple and clean. The old GUI was just a mess

Can anyone comment on the functionality fo this AV software? I'm tired of Norton's bloat and am looking for a new AV...
#5.1 sullysnet on 11 Jun 2005 - 21:04
only Norton that is good is the Corporate one, other then that the home version is bloat and is crapware. Mks_Vir is my top fav but I know Kaspersky is a great app and this version adds a ton of great features that are needed in a good virus app. My suggestion to you is to load MKS or Arca demo and or this BETA and remove the Norton junk. Or some how get a verison of corp Norton

#5.2 bilemke on 12 Jun 2005 - 02:38
This is true.. Corporate solutions from Symantec are nice, the home versions are horrid. I wish they would sell single user versions of the Corp Client. Otherwise I can guess where most people get their copies of Norton/Symantec AntiVirus Corp from...
#5.3 Planet-Ed on 12 Jun 2005 - 05:42
Active Duty Military/DOD Civilians can get it free even for home use by either requesting it from their LAN Help Desk or by using a computer on a military network and downloading it from http://www.cert.mil ...
#6 sullysnet on 11 Jun 2005 - 21:00
finally registry monitor any antivirus protection without this is useless. MKS_Vir is still by far my favorite but this looks like something I would like to test out
#7 soldier1st on 11 Jun 2005 - 21:47

#9.1 sullysnet on 11 Jun 2005 - 23:43
looks much better then their other apps. I might load it in a few. Is there a time limit on this app ???

thanks
#9.2 Staind on 12 Jun 2005 - 00:51
They make me think of Norton Antivirus.
And no firewall in this beta?
#9.3 edgrale on 12 Jun 2005 - 02:59
It is a GOD DAMN ANTI-VIRUS program, keep it simple!
#9.4 sullysnet on 12 Jun 2005 - 04:20
it has a firewall in there, that is the antihacker. THere are many nice things in this but some I had to turn off cause they are a HOG. THe nicest things are the script blocking, registry protection and a few other goodies. Also detection of rootkits
#10 sullysnet on 12 Jun 2005 - 00:14
anyone having issues seeing the settings ??? I can't read them lines are on top of each other. Looks like if you where in a game with a bad video driver

thanks

PS tried different resolutions but still messed up

#13.1 n1g3lng on 12 Jun 2005 - 15:28

#14 n1g3lng on 12 Jun 2005 - 15:36
Just wonder if this's true: it runs 2 processes on my computer about 6mb + 1.5mb if so.. it's real light.

This is a screenie:

wow looks nice ... how does this compare with AVAST?
Im liking my AVASt quite a bit so far
#15.1 Caleb on 12 Jun 2005 - 16:32
AVAST is one of the crappiest Anti-Viruses out there.

It has poor detection rates.

KAV is considered one of the best (if not THE best), and this version should kick ass.

Now that KAV is light weight (and improving) there is no reason to use NOD32, because NOD's detection rates aren't better than KAV's.
#15.2 rm20010 on 12 Jun 2005 - 17:29
If only KAV had a personal version that's free for home use, I'd try it. For now Avast! fits me well. AVG could've been just as good if only the updates weren't so intrusive (it pops up a large window instead of Avast! displaying a small notification window, similar to Messenger's toast windows).
#16 Dinggus on 12 Jun 2005 - 17:16
KAV Beta 2006 just removed my mIRC because its risk ware.. when i got it from the official website..
#17 YeCKeL on 12 Jun 2005 - 17:22
Kav v5 for me takes 11megs that is lean to me for what it does

I will update to v6 later see the usage.
(1 reply) #18 mgorbach on 12 Jun 2005 - 17:46
Can someone please quote the resource usage on this version?
Is it really only two processes?
I like my free AVAST and I dont quite no if i want to leave it ... but if the usage on this is what the screwenshot says it is, then well it might be a good idea.
#18.1 sullysnet on 12 Jun 2005 - 18:27
Yes it is only 2 processes, Go to your service list and see it only has one service, which is excellent. THe other process is maybe another part to the virus app. In MKS it had the same thing, it was called MKS_Menu

Anyway processes are right
(1 reply) #19 Caleb on 12 Jun 2005 - 18:23
For those wondering what this is

This is the Anti-Virus ONLY part of the KIS 2006 package.

Basically, for those of us who don't give a flyin' poop on built-in firewalls.

For the rest, there should also be a package that contains an Anti-Virus, and a built-in Firewall a bit later called KIS 2006 (Kaspersky Internet Security 2006).

If I were you, I'd wait for the final version (that will be much more stable, and less buggy)... so consider yourselves warned
#19.1 sullysnet on 12 Jun 2005 - 18:30
I like the idea that you can load what you want, I hate when an app puts everything in the install and makes you disable what you don't want. That is not good app writing (at what I feel) I found the Web scanning just bogs down my connection and everthing I do. The firewall is something I care little for since I have a hardware firewall.
#20 sullysnet on 12 Jun 2005 - 18:32
Has anyone had this issue yet seems like none of you have this issue. Maybe a font is messed up on my machine or something else. I know it's not video issue since I just updated my drivers and when there was just a default driver it was still hosed. Reminds me of a font issue.

(1 reply) #21 macstorm on 13 Jun 2005 - 06:32
don't want to hear about kav anymore...
it always caused strange behavior on my pc
#21.1 Davebo on 13 Jun 2005 - 14:26
And yet here you are - in a thread about the very product you "don't want to hear about anymore".

What kind of ****ing logic is that? Tools......

sullysnet
it looks like your using a skin or another theme then the XP default. change back to the default luna and i bet that problem will go away.i use KAV personal and it did the same thing to me when i was using a skin/theme.
#22.1 sullysnet on 13 Jun 2005 - 18:32
sounds cool but I don't use skins, ok well I am using the classic skin. I'm not really into the skinning on windows. I love it on apps and on Linux but not windows. Maybe it would go away on skin change but if so they need to fix it. I reported it and I will report again to let them know that I'm using the classic no theme.

thanks
#22.2 kaborka on 14 Jun 2005 - 18:58
I find some apps won't display right if you're running Large Fonts in the display Appearance tab or Advanced Properties. If you are, you might try switching to teh default font sizes. Apps should be written to scale properly, but very few are.
#22.3 sullysnet on 14 Jun 2005 - 21:45
ya I am set to normal seems only an issue using classic look
#23 lithic on 14 Jun 2005 - 01:25
right now i'm using zone alarm pro as my firewall. if i install this av will it conflict with zone alarm? and if so, is the kav firewall just as good as the zone alarm one?
(1 reply) #24 JOEWARE on 14 Jun 2005 - 03:20
kaspersky, norton, mcafee are resource hoggers. i'm staying w/ symantec corp
#24.1 sullysnet on 14 Jun 2005 - 03:43
I hate Norton my Kap is a resource hog for SURE, I am waiting it out though to see how the beta works. MKS is great so far and has some great protection. I may turn off the process monitor that might speed up things
(1 reply) #25 indiehead on 14 Jun 2005 - 08:56
I'm using AVG as my virus scanner.

what's people's opinions of AVG versus this one
#25.1 sullysnet on 14 Jun 2005 - 21:50
I liked AVG when I tried it but one thing I think is important these days is a registry monitor in a virus app. Since using it in MKS_Vir I feel ALOT safer. Now with Kap I feel I trust it even more.

All in all Kap is a great product but I would like to see some other features. I hate the fact that I have to add every app under the sun to my ignore list for Proactive Protection. I wish the App could look through your Add and Remove or somehow get a list of your apps that are loaded on your machine and exclude out the ones you use the most. I could block out all from Program Files but this doesn't help if an attack happens there, like in my Opera foler

They have a great forum and looks like they take care of there customers.
