FlashGet is specifically designed to address two of the biggest problems when downloading files: Speed and management of downloaded files.

FlashGet can split downloaded files into sections, downloading each section simultaneously, for an increase in downloading speed from 100% to 500%. This, coupled with FlashGet's powerful and easy-to-use management features, helps you take control of your downloads like never before.
    Changelog:
  • Improve shareurl service
  • some small changes
  • general fixes
Download: FlashGet 1.70 | 2.39 MB (Shareware, $29.95 USD)

I've been using GetRight for a long time now - are there any download managers that have all the features and functionality of GetRight without the annoying nag screens?

I use Free Download Manager. It's excellent, absolutely free, no spyware/adware/timelimit and amazingly versatile. I don't know why someone would want to pay for or use anything else. Integrates nicely with firefox's flashget extension. You can find it here: Free Download Manager

Agreed on that. Free Download Manager rocks. Plus it has a nicer interface than getrigh, i find and some nice features. Of course getright also has features FDM dosent have.

FDM used to be nice, but they ruined it after version 1.1 by adding those huge ugly "candy" icons, links to special offers or something (can't remember what it was) and made it buggy overall. For example every time I closed it I'd have to open the task manager and kill fdm.exe from running. The best download manager out there in my opinion is Fresh Download. Completely free, more features than FDM and I've had no issues with it at all. www.freshdevices.com

Might be worth trying if I could actually download it. I can't download 1.71, the mirrors aren't working and neither is the main link. I had this same problem when I saw 1.70 was announced a few days ago. They have the worst mirroring service in the world. pathetic.

When would you need one? I have a 2mb connection and use firefox. Would i need it?
#6.1 BigCheese on 15 Aug 2005 - 19:25
I have a 2mb connection and use Maxthon.

I use flashget for large files, so if my wireless connection suddenly cuts off for no reason, I can resume the download. Also sometimes files download really slowly, because the webserver is slow, so I use flashget to split the download into several parts and it speeds it up.

both free download manager and leechget are both excellent and free, why would you buy a download manager where you can get one for free, sides buying a download manager is stupid as it's all for money, leechget and free download manager are both free and work well.

My vote goes to DownloadStudio. I have found it to be the most effective and easiest to use, also allows me to download complete sites, flash files and record streaming media
#15 soldier1st on 16 Aug 2005 - 22:58
my vote goes to fdm and leechget, the adbar in fdm is barely noticable sides you don't need to dl extra plugins for opera.

I've been using Flashget since version 0.96. Never got a corrupted download like with DownloadStudio/FDM/(Leechget/Getright <-- especially).

I wonder what's different in both 1.7 and 1.71, they never announce what's really difference except for some small changes and general fixes.

But hey, did ShareURL.com ever work with any of you?
