If you don't use SLI, that sure sounds like placebo...
No other changes should have been introduced besides the 6500 support.

Don't know what i'm referring to? Its all over the net. Heres a good link:

It's either a nVidia problem or a XP SP2 problem and it's annoying.
The 6500 appears to be Nvidias newest low budget econo video card, to compete with the AIT x550. This is the kind of card your parents might use, but if you ever play games, you don't want it. To even get an acceptable framerate (30fps) in say Doom 3 you can't run higher than 800x600

I had this problem with the Voodoo 2, as Unreal would eventually cause the game to crash because of overheating, but Windows still worked so I just had to CTRL-ALT-DEL it. After a day or so it crossed my mind to just remove a PCI faceplate and everything was fine, Unreal couldn't crash no matter how long I played.
Or if you want a more active & effective method, buy one of the PCI slot fans, hopefully they're better than the ones I bought years ago (mine died after a year).
I'm not fond of noise so I'd rather removed a PCI faceplate than buy another fan and clean the case more often (once a year now-a-days).
The official ones on the site havent been updated since JUNE!
Unless you have a laptop, then you're stuck with the drivers the laptop vendor releases. (In Dell's case, they only update their Nvidia drivers once per year and even then they are a year old)
BUT.... it's not really that simple, it depends on your card model and what game(s) you are playing. If you aren't going to nit pick 1 or 2 fps then always upgrade, generally newer means faster. But there are always high points where certain drivers are extra fast for certain games with certain cards.
A good rule to follow is, make sure you are always using the current driver series, iow if you are using 6x.xx and 7x.xx are out, use the 7x.xx drivers, that's usually a big upgrade. But if you are using 7x.xx and a new 7x.xx comes out, it's usually a minor upgrade unless you are using some card that JUST came out, in which case the only newer drivers will support your card's features.
