Macromedia Flash Player is free software that lets you view web content created by Macromedia Flash. This content may be interactive content such as menus that slide, or may be complex programs like games and movies. Many web browsers (Internet Explorer, for example) install Macromedia Flash Player automatically, but you may need to upgrade it from time to time as Macromedia makes improvements and as websites you visit update their content.

QUOTE
Video Enhancements
Flash Player 8 integrates a new video codec from On2 that works with the VP6.2 encoding support provided in the toolset. The Player now also supports alpha channel video when using the new codec.

6.2's nice, but vp7 achieves near h264 quality.. maybe in flash9? :-)

But still no auto mute. They need to control the damn noise on their product. I do not wish to visit a website and by greeted by sounds using flash, and then mouseover sounds, WHICH CAN NOT BE MUTED.

There really is nothing more anoying on the net.
#4.1 nic on 17 Sep 2005 - 18:05
agreed.
#4.2 shao on 19 Sep 2005 - 12:38
get maxthon, and auto-disable active-x bu default. with the option to turn it on where needed. job done, not only no more sound, but no more crap ass mouse over full screen videos either. :>
#4.3 XanDaMan on 19 Sep 2005 - 18:04
But the point is that I dont want to use a different browser, or have to whitelist flash things. I just want mute.

And I do not want to use maxthon.

if you had noticed on the page to download flash player 8, you can uncheck the yahoo tool bar
quote the website:
Also Install
Yahoo Tool bar (Not required for operation of Flash Player)
#5.2 berk1a on 16 Sep 2005 - 21:58
Automatically IF you don't uncheck it during the install which by default is prechecked

What is the deal with everyone including toolbars these days? If I wanted a stupid Yahoo or Google Toolbar I'd go download them.

Since when do these evil corporations give a damn what you want?

Amen to 4th reply.

It doesn't work at all with FireFox ><
#6.1 TRC on 16 Sep 2005 - 22:03
Yeah it does, I'm using it right now. You might have accidentally got the IE version.
#6.2 Mr Byte on 16 Sep 2005 - 22:27
If you have the adblock extention installed in Firefox and it doesn't work then do this:

Menu ->Tools->Adblock->Preferences
In new window click "Adblock options" and uncheck "Obj-Tabs".

That should do it.
#6.3 BeLGaRaTh on 17 Sep 2005 - 00:20
Make sure you close FF after installation, working fine here ...
#6.4 FireWire on 17 Sep 2005 - 00:20
Thanks for the fix with adblock.
#6.5 Sphinx Myth on 17 Sep 2005 - 12:25
Yeap. AdBlock was the problem. Thanks
#6.6 capeche on 18 Sep 2005 - 14:38
Thanks for that solution! And you can use CTRL+Shift+F for "Flash Overlay" when wanting to create a new filter to block a particular flash object. (this toggles block/unblock).
#7 Galley on 16 Sep 2005 - 22:05
It didn't install the Google toolbar on my system. Was it because I use Opera?
#8 Dirtie on 16 Sep 2005 - 22:19
I got no toolbar either. In IE.

There is no 64 bit version of flash plugin
#11 slimy on 17 Sep 2005 - 04:39
thanks for the news
#12 Dark Scizor on 17 Sep 2005 - 04:40
Installed it yesterday(on IE, Firefox and SeaMonkey) and it works much better than version 7.

Well, I hope they release xpi packages in the next revision so that it can be installed using the installation system inside Firefox and SeaMonkey, thus not having to use an exe installler to get the job done.
#13 eilegz on 17 Sep 2005 - 17:39
i hope they fix adblock even i have to disable obj tabs that its very useful if i want to block some elements
(1 reply) #14 capeche on 17 Sep 2005 - 21:31
I don't get it. Some flashes don't show up now at all unless I turn off Adblock.
#14.1 ^_^ Silly Willy on 18 Sep 2005 - 02:35
I'm also having that issue
#15 amrinders87 on 18 Sep 2005 - 04:19

Blast it! No Linux version yet? Flash 7 is very faulty in Linux and thus, they seriously need to update the Linux port! Let me know when the Linux version of 8 becomes available.
#17.1 LTD on 19 Sep 2005 - 00:17
One of my many complaints when I used to use Linux.

I'm tempted to make a really blatant anti-linux comment, but I won't . . . because markjensen is cool. So, I shall bite my tongue.

7 was better cause this doesn't work in firefox for me either i tryed the ad-block thing
#18.1 toadeater on 18 Sep 2005 - 22:36
Using it with Fx 1.06 and Adblock Plus 5.9.2 right now.
#19 kaborka on 19 Sep 2005 - 01:50
I keep FF flash-free, and fire up IE if I want to view a Flash site. Much less annoying! The IEView plug-in for FF provides "View this page/link in IE" options within FF.
(2 replies) #20 [HUSKY] on 19 Sep 2005 - 11:17
wish they would merge the installers sick of downloading it for firefox then again to update IE
#20.1 Seth Kinast on 19 Sep 2005 - 17:13
That would be dumb. Let's make up numbers, shall we?

100 people download for IE
20 people download for Firefox
10 people download for both.

CASE A: Separate plugins for IE and Firefox
===============================
X = size of plugin
100X + 20X + 2 * 10X = 140X

CASE B: Monolithic plugin for both
========================
This plugin has size 2X
200X + 40X + 20X = 260X

So you see, the only people who are helped are people who would install the plugin for both browsers. Even though my numbers are made up, the fact is that most people don't use both browsers or don't want Flash in both. So for all those other people, they get a larger download and Macromedia wastes bandwidth.

then make the three, it doesn't cost a dime and will only make users more happy

I installed the flash player 8 and got this mesage when I visited www.crywolfgame.com:

An error happened when IE was using this plug-in:
Flash8.ocx
Macromedia

And must be closed.

I uninstalled the FlashPlayer 7.0.19 before I installed the new one. How can I solve this problem???
