#2 Hidea on 06 Oct 2005 - 10:58

Hold on, 78.01 has support for OpenGL® 2.0, but 81.84 only supports OpenGL® 1.5?
#3.1 nekrosoft13 on 06 Oct 2005 - 15:56
Whats up with that?
#3.2 johanc on 06 Oct 2005 - 22:18
as stated on NVIDIA website 81.84 is openGL2.0 and not as mentioned here 1.5.

Maybe this post should be corrected for all its errors ? (NOT WHQL, is OPENGL2.0 NOT 1.5).

One odd thing if you downloaded this driver earlier in the day it was 17MB now its aprox 20MB (nvidia web even still says its 17MB) very odd !

these aren't whql are they?
#5 Burpy on 06 Oct 2005 - 11:05
These are not WHQL, they are "official" beta drivers.
(1 reply) #6 RanCorX2 on 06 Oct 2005 - 11:16
someone change the misleading title of this news to "BETA".
#6.1 ReAnimation on 06 Oct 2005 - 12:06
Yep, these are Beta drivers that nV released to solve a problem with Black & White 2. See the link below on the nZone:

Apprently these drivers give issues to the characters in World of Warcraft, beware its in the release notes
#8 Mando on 06 Oct 2005 - 12:17
ive been running them since yesterday with BF2 and D3. Both run sweet as a nut with no problem. (just liek the 78.01 officals)

They are a keeper (till non BETA ones appear)
(1 reply) #9 Wolken007 on 06 Oct 2005 - 12:25
Yeah, these drivers have been out leaked for a couple of days now. They are beta and are NOT WHQL certified.
#9.1 IGx89 on 06 Oct 2005 - 12:46
I wouldn't say they're leaked, since they're on nVidia's Beta drivers page.

These drivers also contain the multithreading performance enhancements, so if you have a dual-core (or dual-CPU) system expect ~10% or even higher increases in speed in many of your games .

According to what I've read at nvnews the officials should be out within a week so I wouldn't bother with these. There are a lot of improvements though and the new control panel should be included. If not, it's definitely going to be in the official release.
#10.1 onesolo on 06 Oct 2005 - 19:35
I don't see the so called "new" control panel...
Do I need to do anything to enable it?
#10.2 sullysnet on 06 Oct 2005 - 20:33
there is a few new things in the control panel. There are options to setup your monitor using something similar to the Nokia Monitor Test app or something similar (which is kind of cool) maybe other things but I haven't looked throught the whole thing
#10.3 j0j081 on 08 Oct 2005 - 07:06
like I said it might not be in this (beta) version. The new cp looks more like ATI's cp and lets you compare the differences between various settings in real time.

If you've ever noticed on nVidia's website, MCE users have different drivers than 2K/XP users.
#11.2 gaurav on 07 Oct 2005 - 07:57
You'll need these:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/mce/77.79/77.79_winxpmce_english_whql.exe
#11.3 nucleer on 07 Oct 2005 - 11:43
Oops!!
Thanks for the info guys...I "forgot" that MCE requires different graphics drivers. Using Nvidia 6600GT.

Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c and OpenGL® 1.5 support

Hmm, I don't like this. It could have something to do with Windows Vista, even though it's not out yet. I think it's just because it's a beta driver, but even so, it's kind of sloppy.
#12.1 Jugalator on 06 Oct 2005 - 23:41
According to other comments, there are at least two big mistakes in this post:

- It's indeed OpenGL 2.0 and not like it said on the site.
- It's not WHQL drivers, so use at your own risk as they haven't gone through any good QA testing.

Did anyone have any problems with this driver? I have a Geforce 6200 and it keeps on crashing when I try to play any games that has 3D in it, like Counter-Strike, The Sims 2, etc.
#14 Ficman on 06 Oct 2005 - 23:22
I am staying away from this one.. MY driver is doing just fine...
#15 dj_alex_m on 07 Oct 2005 - 04:51
I just installed this beta driver, and I am seeing about 10-20 fps extra in Half Life 2 and CS. It has also fixed the crash bug that caused HL2 and CS to crash on opening after that buggy Steam update.

So to anyone still having problems after the last Steam update still, I suggest trying these drivers.
#16 akuma-x on 07 Oct 2005 - 06:55
Good drivers that fix the Firefox Gif bug but they also break Fable.
Doom and all Source games play good thou.
