Vista Transformation Pack 4.0 was just released and it does a great job of giving your XP machine the Vista look. In December last year Windows Blinds released a new version of their software that was designed to provide Windows XP with transparent effects, however, it wasn’t free. That is where the Vista Transformation Pack comes into play. It is free and does a great job of giving my machine a look similar to Vista. It doesn’t have the powerful transparency effects for every window (as seen on the window to the right in the screenshot above) but does have enough transparency to make me happy. The greatest thing is that it is free!
It does have uninstallation options in case you decide you want to get rid of it, so there really isn’t anything to lose. However, when you install the software it has to overwrite some system files (it modifies things like the boot screen) so Windows will prompt you stating that your system files have been changed. It will ask whether you want to change them back or leave them, so just leave them if you want the system to function properly.
The software is also nice because it allows you to choose what you want it to change. If you don’t want it to alter the boot screen then you just have to uncheck the “Boot Screen” box during installation (the boot screen is kinda ugly, see the screenshots link below). This is a very nice piece of software.

Just wait for the real thing - not that Vista is just a new Gui.
firstly: this is not the final vista look
secondly: you won't get all the features of vista
thirdly: XGL totally r0x vista
Might actualy give Linux a try after reading about it.
With no solid, official confirmation from MS about this, when will people stop trying.
It could very well be extremely similar to the final look. Heck, they're in *release candidates* already.
It's just a theme package people. It's not meant to actually transform XP in to Vista. So no need to whine about not having all of Vistas features. if you were honestly expecting that to happen then you don't know very much about it.
Including a screenshot would've been a good idea. *Goes to source*
screenshot?
Same thing I thought....Very misleading.
this isn't close to vista and anyone who has tested it can tell you that...
this isn't a bad pack, mind you.. just a bad headline
Sort of like those funny BSOD jokes. :p You know, how Windows crash a lot!! Haha :p
While Vista (a view as seen from some distance) has adequately described the OS to present, they've decided to rename the Consumer version GODOT.....
/LOLs
Meanwhile, if you're looking for a update your OS to one that may be more stable and pretty, you really ought to be looking at the recent crop of Linux distros. The alternative? Just what were they thinking with the new MacBook?

And I bet you consider yourself beautiful....
Windows XP looks and works great. If you dont know how to configure your PC, then you should even be allowed near one. Go buy a premade one at Wal-Mart with MSN Messenger preinstalled. That way youd see 0 problems and wouldnt be talking BS out your mouth...
French book I read a few years ago. Story of a guys waiting for a guy named Godot. Stuff happens while they wait. Punchline is that he never comes. I liked that book, somehow.
And so, I found that funny. It made me smile.
I mean it pays to be vaguely educated sometimes.
so i went into folder options and under file types tab, i clicked file folder, and advanced. the only action there was find. so i added open, but i didnt know what to use under "application used to perform action, so i checked explorer.exe. now when i dbl click folders, they always open in new window no matter what! please help
Sick of hearing about Windows Vista? - Yes, I am joking, I realise Neowin is all about MS Betas.
And, if "original poster" means me, I was simply underlining, in a sarcastic way, the big big mistake Microsoft made. Don't you agree with that?

They then went after Jemaho for releasing his Vista theme. I think mainly because KoL helped in making it. Jemaho still releases updates to his though and just recently released Vista 2.0 for Windowblinds I think.
I think the other issue they went after was because KoL called his VistaXP and Jemaho called his Vista. All the other themers who used other names like Arrow for Aero, never heard from MS from what I know of.
I still think that if the names of the themes wouldn't have featured the name Vista, MS wouldn't have said anything. But who knows?
Strangely, the video plays way too fast for me unless I drag the slider to the start again once it has started streaming.
Learn to count lol.
Xgl is an eye candy enhancer for Linux. It's in alpha (I think), but is pretty stable, and has transparency, a spinning cube for virtual desktops, and beautiful (not too niticable, but you know it's tere.) drop shadows.
