Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging client compatible with AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), Yahoo, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Jabber and Zephyr networks. Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time. Gaim supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer (coming soon), away messages, typing notification, and MSN window closing notification.

This update will fix crashing problems encountered when trying to connect to MSN on Windows based machines

I wonder how long it will take for people to start referring to MSN Messenger by its new name of Windows Live Messenger.

Probably until microsoft stops calling the application "msnmsgr.exe", and install it in "C:/Program Files/MSN Messenger"

Gaim is a pretty nice little app. Worth a look for sure if you dont want all the extra crap that msn gives.

I won't be getting it, it's just too buggy in Winblows.

I been using it on windows for a while now and havent had a single problem. 2.0 has worked great.

Gaim is getting less buggy with every release, 2.0 b3.1 seems to run great thus far.

Gaim is awsome, I use it for MSN, AIM, and IRC everyday and its only uses 5-10MB of RAM

I still prefer Trillian even if it's a resource hog.

Gaim uses more memory, and will occasionally eat your CPU after changing VSes. So Trillian wins on resource usage.

That being said, I've stuck with Gaim for it's split-file logging (easy to sync between machines) and native skinning (which not having at least the window frame native always manages to **** me off).

Gaim is less buggy on windows than the Linux version. It works fine since many years on my computer.

I think the future lies in meebo.
