Thanks CoolCatBad...Microsoft® Expression® Web is a new designer-focused product that provides powerful tools you need to produce high-quality, standards-based Web sites the way you want them.

Notes:
  • Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 before installing Expression Web.
  • Uninstall all Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 1 programs from your computer; however, Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh programs can remain on your computer when installing Expression Web Beta 1.

From what I saw of the previous preview release, although the code is a *million* times cleaner than Frontpage code, the app still makes heavy assumptions of the user being in a Frontpage/IIS/IE environment. (Hardly surprising, right enough...) Not that it'll be unusable if you aren't in such environment, but there'll be a degree of redundancy.

Hopefully it'll be extensible enough to have plenty of addons made by third-parties to support developing for different server technologies, but that'll largely depend how MS license any APIs that may be needed to write effective plugins.

Even if not, it is a very nice coding tool, and I wouldn't turn my nose up at a free copy

Can Microsoft Expression Touch Dreamweaver?

Nice read g33kb0y. I just installed and did a few things and I must say it is a good start for a beta. I still like Dreamweaver, but it might be because I am used to it.

Is this the same Expression that's been available for awhile????

CTP 1 was available before. This is new.

It sure does beat the crap out of FP... as do most things, even notepad. Web Designer generates nice code, and the template system is handy. I have to say I like it more than Dreamweaver... but that's probably just because I'm used to Microsoft's UIs.

edit
Just dl'ed it and ran it... definitely some improvements going on. Intellisense in CSS, and the design mode renders it just as it would in browser, which it didn't in the CTP. Can't wait to play with it some more and see how much more goodies I can find.

why does it require registration? I hate this crap.
Quote this comment #8.1 Posted by knight17 on 17 Sep 2006 - 17:14
Because Microsoft needs to make sure their registration/activation processes works as they have planned, that is the same reason why you "must" activate Vista Beta releases.

200MB download? Isn't that a bit much for a text editor on steroids...

The trial version of Dreamweaver is a 60 MB download, with its CD / ISO being over 600 mb. This isn't ridiculous at all.
