Norton AntiVirus ($39.99) and Norton Internet Security ($69.99) have hit the 2007 version. Upgrade versions will be available. Both products detect entire families of threats, without the need of signatures. NAV2007 can now detect rootkits and NIS2007 now includes a phishing shield. Norton 360, Symantec’s answer to Microsoft’s OneCare is expected by the end of March 2007.

Symantec is touting better protection and system performance – something that is unusual from Norton. According to the security giant, the new versions use less memory, have a faster boot time, a faster scan speed, a faster UI launch speed and a faster download speed for updates. The product line is typically under much criticism at its ability to majorly slow down a computer and for how hard it can be to remove from a Windows system.

"can now detect rootkits"
Yeah, right. It can detect OLD rootkits that nobody but script kiddies uses anymore. Get real, Symantec.

SYMANTiC = ****E

Guaranteed to slow your PC down to a snails pace. Also guaranteed to not to uninstall correctly and bugger up your system.

A V O i D @ A L L C O S T S .

Go use NOD32 or Kaspersky if you have any sense.

pc-cillin has a tendancy to hang alot and not detect alot,go with nod32,symantec products would be great if they were easy to remove from the system and did not require NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation to be disabled for liveupdate as that is in the 16bit era and were not bloated products that give you fancy effects but slow the whole system down in the process.

You obviously have an old PC or do not know what you are doing/talking about. Trend's PC-Cillan does not lock up, nor does it fail to detect items. IF it fails to detect items, so does Nod32 and Symantec. In fact, I had to submit a virus to Symantec because it failed to detect a virus that PC-Cillin did.

And if you think Pc-Cillin is bloated, you have not used the versions in the last two years.

Symantec AV 10 is light years better. I though Go Back sucked but that's my opinion as well.

Oh good. Some people who have tried these latest ones. Since you didn't like these retail products, can you send them to me now that you've completed your exhaustive testing and reviewed them for us? And what rootkits did you test it with, Croquant, that you found it lacking?

Never had a problem with bloating. However its weekly scan was so slow that I set it for Monday's at 2AM. As a side note, I have always had Norton. Its a great product and the 2007 version has major improvements. NIS 2007 is lacking parental controls, pop-up blocking, ad blocking. It is being tested now and maybe released as a free upgrade. Who knows?

I believe it will never happen. It is an antivirus program, not a security package program. I really don't want it to become like Norton. Since Windows XP and future versions of Windows has an adequate firewall. It does the job. Since I believe ESET believe in zero tolerate of system bloat, they won't include software that can be found in the OS.

NOD32 + WinFirewall + Win Defendor = Sufficent protection for the home computer.

Norton 2007 better than 2006? Proof it, symantec. Come on here with your lappy and install a copy of Norton on it in front of me. I am not going to let my system fall to your stupid tatics and bloated programs. Proof it that you improved on the products.

Are NOD32 releasing a firewall? News to me. I just use windows firewall, and have found it totally adequate.

If anyone uses it(the beta or whatever is available) is the performance any better than previous versions?
