Google Toolbar increases your ability to find information from anywhere on the web. This means you can quickly and easily use Google to search from any website location, without returning to the Google home page to begin another search. The Google Toolbar updates itself automatically, so you never need to install a newer version as long as you use the Toolbar. You can determine which version of the Toolbar you have by clicking the "Settings" button on the Toolbar and selecting "Help" > "About Google Toolbar."

Still, the toolbar provides tons of features that I find quite useful and would require about a dozen addons to replicate.
So, bloated? Not at all. I think its a very nice addition to FireFox.
for example what are the features that could replicated by multiple other extensions?

It's about ease of use and simplicity. And I use it on my IE at work where I cannot have Firefox.
