Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. It is developed by a large community and we invite you to participate too!

Ubuntu is suitable for both desktop and server use. The current Ubuntu release supports PC (Intel x86), 64-bit PC (AMD64), UltraSPARC T1 (Sun Fire T1000 and T2000) and PowerPC (Apple iBook and Powerbook, G4 and G5) architectures.

Other "sister" distributions are also available: Kubuntu, Edubuntu and Xubuntu.

Also, it seems that with the introduction of v7.04, the PowerPC (Apple iBook and Powerbook, G4 and G5) architecture is no longer supported. Just browse into their mirror download sites and no mention whatsoever to it.

My 2 cents.

Dude it was just released. They probably don't have all packages ready yet. I didn't read anywhere about them dropping support.

Kubuntu.org working for anyone?

It isn't supported anymore, but there are images available - you're just on your own if you run into problems.

I only installed 6.10 about 5 days ago

Updating as we speak.
#4 MegaRainX on 19 Apr 2007 - 15:29
Its well worth the update. I beta tested this wonderful little fawn and I have to say, good job. Sure, there are a number of glitches still to be worked out, but for most people it won't matter. This baby is hot.
#5 rIaHc3 on 19 Apr 2007 - 15:49
Damn it; I just burned 6.10 a few weeks ago.

Can't believe they still haven't fixed the RT2500 Wireless problems, the bug has been around since the first beta...

Alternative download links: Ubuntu torrents
#8 gohankid77 on 19 Apr 2007 - 17:57
The servers seem to be slow, probably due to all of the downloading.

It's a very good release. World of Warcraft (along with most Windows software) runs *almost* out of the box on Wine now. Proprietary drivers and basic Compiz are very easily enabled now, and the system seems rock solid overall.

Other than a couple of little nags on the KDE side, I'm happy with this release.
#10 Viper_Maniac on 19 Apr 2007 - 19:35
Awesome. Downloading now via torrents.

Even the torrents are really slow. I wonder if it'll be faster to just download and install K/Ubuntu 6.10 and update.
#12.1 souldreamer on 19 Apr 2007 - 23:03
No. I have feisty installed and i can't use apt-get. The servers are sooooooooo slow.
#12.2 DJ_Myth on 19 Apr 2007 - 23:08
Should've updated lastnight like I did
#12.3 souldreamer on 19 Apr 2007 - 23:11
Or had the beta installed like me
#12.4 EchoNoise on 20 Apr 2007 - 00:36
Or run a cron job for apt-get dist-upgrade every 2 hours, like I did
#12.5 MajinDark on 20 Apr 2007 - 00:43
Well I'm trying to get the 64-bit version, which I guess isn't seeded as well. I'm only getting 90 KB/s, which is really slow for a Linux distro.

A bit overkill, ya think? I have my cron job to nightly (8:00pm).

To bad my X-Fi still won't work with Linux, gg Creative!
#13.1 ranasrule on 20 Apr 2007 - 13:27
how can LINUX expect to become a viable option on the desktop if there isnt support for such a widely used pieces of hardware ?
#13.2 Nate Boom on 20 Apr 2007 - 13:40
Good question. But does the blame rest on the driver developers, or on Creative for not making their own drivers or even helping the alsa developers.

From the alsa website:

Completely new architecture. Creative actively preventing support due to no datasheets being released to ALSA developers. Reverse engineering work not started due to lack of time.

Everything's gonna be slow with everyone trying to grab the update

Very good Linux distro. I tried it for about a year. Not good enough support for cd burning for me to stick with Linux. Burn WAY to many cd's, to be burning coasters. Nice to see they were pretty much right on time with this update.
#15.1 vetmarkjensen on 20 Apr 2007 - 16:40

k3b has provided an easy-to-use interface, and solid burns.

Not sure what hardware you have that gave you such problems...
