Don't conversions like this result in degraded sound quality?

For example, most WMA is already lossy. When you convert one lossy format to another, you lose sound quality.

Being that 90% of my (non-DRM) audio files are ripped from CDs. I just rip to MP3 to begin with. :-)

Yes doesn't make sense to go from lossy to lossy. However sometimes may want to convert from Flac (lossless) to lossy. Too bad it doesn't mention Shorten files, though, otherwise this would be good for me to convert high quality files into smaller ones for portable, etc.
