I'll wait for other people to report on this....

I'm having bad exprience with firewalls for vista, ranging from ESET to Kaspersky to ZA and MS own OneCare (eww)

They work for a few days and then all the sudden... all ports closes, webpage load problems, lag and other various problems that only get solved with them being uninstalled and then reseting the winsock catalog on my vista.

Took them long enough. All they did since January is make excuses as to why the vista version wasn't out while at the same time criticizing Microsoft for a poor job on their included firewall

And Beastage what sort of problems are you having with Kaspersky? It runs just fine on my vista pc. The only issue is that it eats away at my bandwidth but there are options that need to be adjusted for that

It worked fine for a long time but then as with the rest I tried, all ports begun to act erratic, P2P software reported ports closed even tho manually opened in the firewall, eventually got worse to the point of DNS errors and webpage loading

The Outpost settings database seems to deteriorate after a while. Too many automatic rules set, or applications listed. I think all the automatic rules eventually add up to create impossible situations. E.g. block this, don't block it because of rule #235364, must be blocked because of rule #5918356198, crash.

ps..i fully agree with Beastage...security suites such as Kaspersky+NOD32..have horrible firewalls for vista..they have too many bugs and glitches! they suddenly block ports and restrict data flow..

u guys just have to see and pray that COMODO brings out a firewall for Vista...becos they are tops!

I'm not too hopeful. It seems Comodo gets rarely updated and the WinXP version is already pretty buggy. It sometimes gives alerts for things where deny will result in everything being blocked and I could never get IRC DCC sends working with it. Even allowing all connections (which should usually turn the whole firewall off) didn't make it possible. Went to Kerio/Sunbelt which is also a buggy piece of ****.

IMO Outpost is one of the better firewalls for Windows but even it has its quirks and it's not free either.

Comodo have stated a V3.0 Vista compatible version of their firewall is coming. First Beta in June 07 (tentative)

Hello,

ESET has a dedicated forum here for reporting problems with the beta test version of ESET Smart Security. If you are experiencing a problem with the beta version, the best way to get it resolved is to report it there so it can be fixed by their developers.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky
