Before anybody else says it:
1. Yes, it has a big download size.
2. Yes, their nero's servers and mirrors are hammered and slow.
3. No, change log is not out yet.
4. Yes, there are alternatives... Ashampoo is a good one IMHO. A smaller unofficial package called "Nero Lite" is available.

AFAIK Nero Lite's development has been suspended by its author.

Yea, it has not been updating. Any thoughts on the suspension?

+1 for Ashampoo. Got fed up with Nero and can heartedly recommend Ashampoos burning suite after using it for the last few weeks

THe best alternative IMO is ImgBurn.. it's not just an image burner despite the name, it can build by drag and dropping files too. It's fast, free, and lightweight.

i agree as far as "image" burning as it's my new program of choice cause of the good rep dvd decrypter had and this is same guy (lightning uk) who made that so i "trust" the program to work well... plus it's free and beats alot of the paying versions out there and gets straight to the point with alot of customization options.

Why don't they ever release a update? Having to download 170+MB is just bloody ridiculous.

Before complaining about a piece of software, how about learning a little about it first? Nero ProductSetup is the 'perferred' method of updating Nero. It's a bit buggy, but does offer a means to only upgrade those components that have been updated.

I admit to being annoyed about Nero's bloating since the 5.5 days, and have investigated alternatives to its burning features. I mostly use Nero for burning discs, and not recoding DVD's or playing them; I have other software for that. I'm currently using ImgBurn and have so far been pleased with it. If I stay as pleased as I am now, I will probably donate $20.

The Nero Smartstart is now transparent on Windows Vista. I do not know if this future is NEW since the 7.8.5.0 release but it was the first change I noticed..

Its been like that for the last 2 releases or so, at least on my PC.

is there any alternatives when it comes to nero vision for making video dvds? I have vista and have found vision to cause crashes when veiwing folders with videos in thumbnail mode. Windows DVD Maker doesnt work half the time and is useless.
