AMD/ATI have released their latest set of video card drivers for both Windows XP and Windows Vista, Catalyst™ 7.5.

New Features:
  • DirectX 10 driver support for the Radeon™ HD 2900 XT (single card and CrossFire™ configurations) for Windows Vista
This release of Catalyst™ introduces the ATI DirectX 10 driver for the Radeon™ HD 2900 XT, for both single cards and CrossFire™ configurations. The ATI DirectX 10 driver used in combination with the Radeon™ HD 2900 XT (and an application designed to take advantage of the power of the DirectX 10 API) delivers incredible graphics effects never seen before on the PC.
  • Second Generation ATI Theater™ 650
This release of Catalyst™ introduces the second generation ATI Theater™ 650. This product will provide support for the new MCE 2006 requirements such as DRM support. Further, it will include features to support ATI All-In-Wonder products. It will also provide improved TV quality and Broadcast Flag support which enables full US terrestrial DTV support.

Performance Improvements
OpenGL performance is improved on the ATI Radeon™ X1950 XTX at high resolutions (1920x1200 or greater) with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering enabled. Doom 3 and Quake 4 improves as much as 13-18%, and Prey improves at least 15.6%. The ATI Radeon™ X1950 Pro and X1650 XT also sees improvements in Doom 3 and Quake 4 of up to 14.1% at higher resolutions with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering enabled.

Nice, hopefully this will have fixed some of the issues we saw in the 2900XT reviews, maybe even bump up the performance a bit.

where are the mobility radeon drivers for vista

Currently AMD does not provide any driver support for Mobility Radeon™ products. All driver and technical support for Mobility Radeon™ products is provided by the original laptop or notebook manufacturer. The drivers that are available for download at ati.amd.com are for desktop products only.

Trust me - ATI's drivers are crap as well. We need a decent 3rd choice in the video card marketplace...

Since when did ATI start bundling junk with their driver installers?
Quote this comment #4.1 Posted by Nexus- on 01 Jun 2007 - 06:11
Now i guess. The earth thing looks like pure junk and steam isnt junk.
However i do think neither should be bundled with the installer, you do have a choice via checkboxes and they dont attempt to hide it like spyware would.

Any issues with these drivers, it seems to put my PC monitor into hibernate and cannot bring it back until I go in safe mode and roll back to 7.4. Help would be appreciated. Should say the issue is in the install procedure, you know how your monitor flashes as it is installing new drivers.

I too have this problem.
I first had it in WindowsXP which resulted in the previously mentioned issues. My monitor would just cycle in the power off/mode before it got the login screen.
I recently installed Vista Home Basic on a 2nd harddrive, which is dual booting fine. Downloaded the proper drivers for my system, rebooted and they installed fine. Since my resolution was still in 800x600, I went and changed it to 1440x900 then this is when I experience the same problem as I had in XP. My monitor cycles on/off.
Hardware:
Monitor: LG 194WTX (Digital)
Video Card: ATI Radeon x1650 Pro 512MB AGP
Motherboard: Asus P4P800S-X
HD0: WinXP
HD1: Vista Home Basic 32bit

(It's good to know others out there are having this same problem. Now I have the task of trying to get the 7.5s off of Vista and installing the 7.4s.)
