DFX dramatically improves the sound quality of Internet and digital audio. Whether you're listening to downloaded audio tracks or live Internet radio streams, DFX will greatly enhance your listening experience. DFX enhances Internet-oriented audio listening experiences by correcting for the sonic limitations of nearly all the popular data compressed Internet audio formats. Data compressed audio suffers from two major problems: loss of high frequency fidelity and loss of stereo separation and depth. DFX compensates for the loss of high frequency fidelity by carefully regenerating the missing high frequency harmonics in the audio. DFX then compensates for the reduced stereo imaging and depth by carefully generating ambience and stereo depth. Typical PC-based multimedia playback systems and even home stereo playback systems also suffer from limited dynamic range and headroom. DFX compensates for this limited headroom by carefully processing the audio to increase the perceived loudness of the audio without altering the perceived dynamic range. This can dramatically increase the undistorted playback level available when listening to MP3 and other streaming audio files.

Features:

* 3D Surround Sound - Immerse yourself inside the music
* Stereo Ambience - Renew lost stereo depth
* Dynamic Gain Boosting - Pump up the volume
* Headphones Optimization - Hear more pleasant, natural sounds with headphones
* Customizable Music Presets - Select finely-tuned settings for many styles of music

* Booming HyperBass - Produce deeper, richer bass
* High Fidelity Restoration - Eliminate that "muffled" sound
* Spectrum Analyzer - "See" DFX enhance your sound
* Music and Speech Modes - Get optimized sound for any type of audio
* Customizable Skins - Choose from hundreds of amazing skins

I would really like to try this out and very possibly buy this if it does half of what it says... but the install for Windows Media player fails in the beginning of the process on Windows Vista.

Well, it works fine. Didn't test it on Vista, though. You should report your bug.

Glad it works fine on Xp... I would assume thats what your running.
Yep... emailed the company with the Fatal Error msg first thing today.

Haven't heard back from them yet; I will definitely buy it if it works.

It works on both Vista and Vista x64.

i have been using DFX for WMP since version 6. My mp3 never sounded so good. I have mediocre soundcard and speakers. DFX enhances the audio so much, it is the first thing I install on every fresh OS install.

Highly recommended.

Hmmm...
I just tried downloading the latest version again for WMP and got the same results... even ran the installer with Admin rights and it still failed with the Fatal Error "Installation ended prematurely because of an error".
Vista Ult. 32bit.

Anyway I'm glad you like it.
I'll email support again.

--Edit--
I went to CNet and tried their version for WMP and got the same results.
Tried the one for Winamp and got further along in the install with no problem, that one was made by NSIS. I just don't have Winamp.
I am assuming they changed installers for the latest version for WMP and that is giving the hiccup...

--Edit Again--
I went ahead and bought the plus pack (for all six players) since it got good reviews and other people here like it.
I am sure the install issue with WMP will be resolved soon... might as well support the cause.

Free to try

Shame there isnt more wiggle room for the free version. If your lucky you can move a slider or two before it begs for money. I also didnt notice a difference, but I only use headphones and guess what? I cant change the mode to headphones unless I pay. Because headphones are for the rich, right?
