Safari has always been the fastest browser on the Mac and now it’s the fastest browser on Windows, loading and drawing web pages up to twice as fast as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Mozilla Firefox 2.

Why you'll love Safari:

* Blazing Performance2x Faster - Safari is the fastest web browser on any platform.
* Elegant User Interface - Safari’s clean look lets you focus on the web — not your browser.
* Easy Bookmarks - Organize your bookmarks just like you organize music in iTunes.
* Pop-up Blocking - Say goodbye to annoying pop-up ads and pop-under windows.
* Inline Find - Search any text on any website with the integrated Find banner.
* Tabbed Browsing - Open and switch between multiple web pages in a single window.
* SnapBackSnapback - Instantly snap back to search results or the top level of a website.
* Forms AutoFill - Let Safari complete online forms for you, automatically and securely.
* RSSBuilt-in RSS - RSS tells you when new content is added to your favorite sites.

* Resizable Text Fields - Resize text fields on any website: Just grab the corner and drag.
* Private Browsing - Keep your online activities private with a single click.
* Security - Apple engineers designed Safari to be secure from day one.

for me, it doesn't come close to opera, but that may just be me.

this steve jobbs is full of it! safari should stay in OSX (not even there it's favorite) and not come to lie to us. faster, elegant, secure, my a$s!
#5.1 drygnfyre on 14 Jun 2007 - 17:30
Elegance is certainly up to the user to decide, but for me, I really do find that Safari is faster than IE7 and Firefox 2. It's about the same as Opera 9, which, for me, has always been among the quickest browsers I've used.
#5.2 T-1000 on 14 Jun 2007 - 17:50
I think every user will agree that Safari is actually quite fast at rendering pages. What annoys me is how it doesn't even come close to being a native Windows application and how you can't close it by just clicking in the upper-right corner.

It may be elegant when using OSX, but why the need to employ their own font rendering in Windows? There are a lot of other problems that shouldn't be there. Windows users are used to Cleartype and Safari won't be adopted by many if they insist in forcing Windows users to the Mac-way of displaying and doing things.
#6 eilegz on 14 Jun 2007 - 17:35
well lets try it to see if they fixed a lot of things here...
#7 buletov on 14 Jun 2007 - 17:40
What about Internet Banking? Those are usually working only on IE...

The bragging they did when releasing this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Why they even want to talk about speed, when they don't even render pages properly is beyond me. Bundling this with Quicktime, which is easy to get without being aware of it, is annoying.
#8.1 Foxxx428 on 14 Jun 2007 - 18:35
Huh???

Safari+QuickTime for Windows XP or Vista
Safari for Windows XP or Vista
Safari for Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later

If you bothered to even look, it's obviously not a forced bundle of quicktime and safari. Anyway, seems to work just fine for me on Vista x64. Renders pages fine, uses a ton of ramm, it's a browser, lets me test my web pages with Safari. It's not great and it's not terrible.
#8.2 NightmarE D on 14 Jun 2007 - 18:59
The person could have meant that a bundled version isn't really needed. There's no need to bundle all their Windows versions of software together.
#8.3 virtorio on 14 Jun 2007 - 21:42
What pages doesn't it render properly? Only time I've seen Safari render a page "wrong" is when the person who made it didn't do it properly.
#9 soldier1st on 14 Jun 2007 - 18:39
ie is crap and slow and safari is ok but the interface sucks and memory usage is way more than firefox but it is beta afterall, and qucktime sucks, quicktime alternative is best.

Why you'll love Safari: Don't tell people what they're going to love. Let the people decide

* Blazing Performance2x Faster - Safari is the fastest web browser on any platform.

Not for me. IE 7 is much faster on my system

* Elegant User Interface - Safari’s clean look lets you focus on the web — not your browser.

Looks good, but if you're using the default XP Luna theme it looks way out of place.

* Easy Bookmarks - Organize your bookmarks just like you organize music in iTunes.

Didn't have an issue with this

* Pop-up Blocking - Say goodbye to annoying pop-up ads and pop-under windows.

Blocked some pop-ups that I didn't want blocked

* Inline Find - Search any text on any website with the integrated Find banner.

Worked alright

* Tabbed Browsing - Open and switch between multiple web pages in a single window.

Only annoying thing is clicking File then Open New Tab

* SnapBackSnapback - Instantly snap back to search results or the top level of a website.

Didn't work for me

* Forms AutoFill - Let Safari complete online forms for you, automatically and securely.

Crashed on forms

* RSSBuilt-in RSS - RSS tells you when new content is added to your favorite sites.

Worked alright

* Resizable Text Fields - Resize text fields on any website: Just grab the corner and drag.

Didn't test that

* Private Browsing - Keep your online activities private with a single click.

Didn't test this either

* Security - Apple engineers designed Safari to be secure from day one.

They must have been very drunk.

Safari is like a retarded little brother of the web browser world.

It looks dumb and can't do what the other browsers can.

However, it's "parent" talks about how "special" it is, and how it can do some amazing things.

Apple isn't fooling anyone.

You guys need some counseling, seriously.
#13 Beastage on 14 Jun 2007 - 20:15
Apple must be doing something right! /sarcasm

lol... Safari's share in its own OSX market is only 50%
#14 n3urotic on 14 Jun 2007 - 20:59
wow a lot of trolls here. Many IE Fanboys, surprised the Firefox Fanboys contained themselves this time.

APPLE-SA-2007-06-14 Safari Beta 3.0.1 for Windows

The Safari 3 Public Beta was released on June 11 for Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista. This beta software is for trial purposes and intended to gather feedback prior to a full release. As with all our products, we encourage security researchers to report issues to product-security@apple.com.

Safari 3.0.1 Public Beta for Windows is now available and addresses the following issues in Safari 3 Public Beta:

CVE-ID: CVE-2007-3186
Available for: Windows XP or Vista
Impact: Visiting a malicious website may lead to arbitrary code execution
Description: A command injection vulnerability exists in the Windows version of Safari 3 Public Beta. By enticing a user to visit a maliciously crafted web page, an attacker can trigger the issue which may lead to arbitrary code execution. This update addresses the issue by performing additional processing and validation of URLs.
This does not pose a security issue on Mac OS X systems, but could lead to an unexpected termination of the Safari browser.

CVE-ID: CVE-2007-3185
Available for: Windows XP or Vista
Impact: Visiting a malicious website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
Description: An out-of-bounds memory read issue in Safari 3 Public Beta for Windows may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution when visiting a malicious website. This issue does not affect Mac OS X systems.

CVE-ID: CVE-2007-2391

I'll give it another try just for the hell of it. =p

Elegant is to Safari as svelt is to Rosie O'Donnell.

Im not giving up on it yet, even tho it gives me the dry heaves to look at it. Quite possibly the most unappealing looking POS (piece of software) Ive ever seen.
(1 reply) #18 virtorio on 14 Jun 2007 - 21:38
Certainly seems a lot faster and more responsive than Internet Explorer 7, but suffers the same problem it always has – a limited set of features.

I can’t understand why people have such a problem with Apple. If you don’t like their stuff don’t use it and move on.
#18.1 solardog on 14 Jun 2007 - 23:24
Not on my machine. Its no faster and not nearly as responsive. I aint no huge fan of IE either. Order goes:
  1. Opera
  2. Firefox
  3. IE7
  4. Safari(so far)
You think apple wants everyone to just move on when people dont like their stuff? Its called varying opinions and tastes. Im pretty sure Apple does not want everyone to move on just yet. My suggestion to them so far:
  1. Stop saying its the fastest, because it aint and make it so.
  2. For the love of all that is good, pretty this sucker up. It sticks out like a sore thumb at a thumb amputee convention.

* Inline Find - Search any text on any website with the integrated Find banner.

My spyware toolbar can do it since 2002.

I'm having the same issue being discussed here, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?m...31&#4712631, and am on an older AMD, so I guess this fits me.

Otherwise, it runes as well as any other browser on two other XP Pro machines with newer AMD's.
#23 serenityrule1515 on 16 Jun 2007 - 17:54
so far this is nothing more than bloated crapware...that wastes space on my HDD

i'll rethink about even using the final version sometime...or whenever it feels convenient for em to release such a ''polished'' browser...?

im not happy..and many like myself are pis**d..well done
