Avast is marginally better than AVG. The best free AV is Avira.

May's proactive results were especially interesting. If this site is to be trusted, most of the popular AVs are failing to catch new types of malware. Avira (the paid version) did the best.

Dude where do you get off saying that. Sure Avast is alittle better but not by much. No virus scan is 100% effective. I tried Avast but that little spinning "a" was annoying. AVG free is better then some paid anti viruses. Read this virus scan results for yourself. Hell years ago I got a virus and I was using the mighty Norton. AVG,Avast and Antivir are all about the same.

No, they aren't. Avira has consistently better detection rates than AVG.

Very true. I use AVG Free along with Comodo free firewall. I also use AVG Free Anti Spyware program. I refuse to buy another anti virus program or firewall.

Thats a pretty sad comment when considering my son is only 8 and he can use this virus scan. And by the way its a virus scan only. Thats why it does not have a spyware scan built in. AVG has a free spyware scan to go along with there free virus scan. It took me all of a minute to learn and navigate the GUI.
