Adobe Flash Player is the high-performance, lightweight, highly expressive client runtime that delivers powerful and consistent user experiences across major operating systems, browsers, mobile phones, and devices.

Flash Player 9 builds on improvements in Flash Player 8 to execute content and applications faster than ever before with a number of performance improvements:

* Experience up to ten times faster ActionScript 3.0 execution with the new virtual machine and optimized compiler.
* Increase content and application speeds through faster application startup times and a 50% reduction in memory footprint.
* Accelerate rendering performance through more efficient, cached vector graphics.
* Improve text readability and get faster, smoother scrolling of large text blocks with optimized text rendering routines.

I wish they'd put out a 64bit version.

I think this is what may put Silverlight into the light. They lacked a Linux client update since 7, but just recently released 9. The Linux version 9 does not play a lot of programs though and these 'quick updates' that lack 64-bit packages and features that Silverlight is already including is what may cause Adobe to loose quite a bit of market share on this... but hey, thats what competition and innovation is all about, right? At least Silverlight will have an editor and client out for Linux (already being produced by Novell) along with Mac and Windows. Adobe has no editor, no connections, and no plans for Linux. No 64-bit packages (I am moving to a new 64-bit system at the end of the month). I have heard little about Flash 10, but it better come soon and hit hard or Silverlight could take over where Adobe is leaving off...

This has been out for a while now. I think they changed the date for some reason or another. I can't get this version to work in IE so be forewarned. I had to reinstall Vista and run 9,0,45,0 which works fine. I tried everything that was suggested in their forums and nothing worked. Their forums are full of people having problems with 9,0,47,0 getting it to install correctly. Oh and yes those are commas and not periods in the version number which is what Adobe does.
