Soulseek is a unique ad-free, spyware free, and just plain free file sharing application. One of the things that makes Soulseek unique is the community-related features. Based on peer-to-peer technology, virtual rooms allow you to meet people with the same interests, share information, and chat freely using real-time messages in public or private. Soulseek, with its built-in people matching system, is a great way to make new friends and expand your mind! Soulseek does not endorse nor condone the sharing of copyrighted materials. You should only share and download files which you are legally allowed to or have otherwise received permission to share.

Please note:
The test version connects to a smaller, faster server that is separate from the main server. although there are less people on the test server, the search functionality is much improved and search results often rival those on the main server. additionally, the test client offers numerous optimizations and bug fixes over the release client relating to almost every aspect of functionality. if for any reason you would like to connect to the main server, the release client is available for download below. both test and release clients may be installed and run side by side.

Aside from mentioning that the test clients connect to a faster and improved server, they only mention in general terms "bug fixes" and "improved functionality." I would like some specifics, too.

i used to LOVE soulseek. i'm an os x user now, but back in my windows days this was the greatest thing ever. then one day i tried it & it was extremely slow & just.. horrible. i thought to myself.. 'what the hell happened?!' and then proceeded to sit in a corner & cry.
