Java Runtime Environment (JRE) enables your computer to run applications and applets that use Java technology. Java technology allows you to work and play in a secure computing environment. Java technology is in cell phones, automobiles, the Mars Rover, and many other places. By downloading it to your computer, you will be able to experience the power of Java software. The Java Virtual Machine is only one aspect of Java software that is involved in web interaction. The Java Virtual Machine is built right into your Java software download, and helps the Sun JRE run Java applications.

Looking at the changelog this hardly seems worth releasing or installing. Have I missed something?

You haven't missed a thing! It's not worth it.
Of course simply having ANY version of this POS, isn't worth it!

Are you stupid? Are you aware that many large scale systems these days are written in Java? Why do people just come into news posts and say really stupid stuff? It bewilders me how dumb and uninformed people are these days.

Are you stupid?

You don't even need to ask that question when he just removed any doubt....

Tread softly, for you tread on my favourite language! It's just the update I was questioning, NOT JRE itself.

Adobe PDF does the same.

There is no browser in JRE, so leave that stupid remark to when the browser is released.

It's one of those necessary evils that we have here at work. Not that it is a bad product, but it certainly has its quirks along the way. It would also be nice if Sun would put the option (command line would be fine) to do an uninstall/upgrade of old versions instead of just leaving the old versions on the machine. I know some apps may need specific versions of Java installed, but having that option to only have the latest version installed would be a big plus.

Hehe.. Well I don't hate Java, but I definately don't like it. Hate is a very strong word .

The interesting part is that people who are against Java are usually the ones who aren't that familiar with it, or are to entrenched in the bull**** produced by a certain vendor.

java aint too bad,it sure is a hell of alot better than the ms java, java is needed these days,it may be big and somewhat slow but atleast it works.
#8.1 GAM on 05 Oct 2007 - 08:49
The whole thing about Java being slow is just a myth. Java is the language, and there is no speed associated with it.
