Halite is a open-source BitTorrent client and is based on the excellent libtorrent library from Rasterbar Software. What makes Halite stand out is its remote control interface allowing you to monitor and control the program from a mobile phone. Hailte is written in unicode so it will only run on Win2k or higher.

Features:

* Multiple downloads.
* Displays more detailed information for the selected torrent.
* Connection limits both global and per-torrent.
* Transfer rate limits again global and per-torrent.
* Trackerless torrents (using the Mainline kademlia DHT protocol).
* IP filtering with eMule ipfilter.dat import.
* Minimize to tray with transfer rate summary.
* Association with ".torrent" files.
* Option to limit the number of instances to one.
* Estimated time remaining indicator.
* Full Unicode support through UTF-8 and native Windows wide-char strings.
* Login support where tracker requires it.
* Ability to edit trackers specified in the torrent.
* Low in resource usage

Looks like it aims to be a uTorrent-like application. It's small, yes, but looks like it lacks some nice features.

I have used this and the beta version that was released about 2 months ago. It is nice that it's open source and it has pretty much all the functionality of µTorrent. What is not so nice is that it connects to only a fraction of the peers and seeds as µTorrent. That is, whereas µTorrent would show me connected to 35(80) seeds [connected to 35 seeds and 80 seeds in the swarm], Halite would connect to maybe 3(7) seeds on the exact same tracker.

Sincerelly, there's two clients I would recommend: uTorrent and Azureus. If you want a comparison, uTorrent might be a swiss knife, but Azureus is a space station. The problem with uTorrent is the claims of being used by BitTorrent Inc. as some sort of listening post. Hence why the current popular support of Halite (Also because it's OSS).

Maybe you have problems with Halite because there are restrictive trackers that allow only a set of clients, and Halite is pretty new.

Halite is in an early stage of development supporting basic features

However, I'll keep on testing and reporting bugs.

Can't wait for this to mature.
