I wonder if the codecs it uses are self contained to its install dir. Too afraid to try it out and see that it registered them all system wide, overwriting my other codecs playback priority levels.

I would stay away, my Real Media files no longer play in Windows Media Player, now I need to reinstall Real Alternative and look for other messes this thing did to my system.

It uses MPLAYER/MENCODER to convert between files and it doesn't overwrite your settings.
