"We are very proud to release Aptana Studio 1.0 (formerly Aptana IDE). After over two years of non-stop development and over a million downloads, we have finally reached “1.0″. Along with the release of 1.0, we have also created two editions of the product: Community and Professional. The Community Edition is the keystone of the Studio product, where all core features and capabilities are developed. The Professional Edition brings additional features and services beyond the free Community edition."

Features:
  • Community Edition
    • CSS Preview
    • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Formatting
    • Code drag and drop
    • Visual ScriptDoc Explorer
    • Enhanced Dynamic Help System
    • Tons of User Interface Polish
  • Professional Edition
    • JSON Editor
    • Internet Explorer Debugging
    • Remote Project Creation
    • FTPS and SFTP Support
    • Reporting Engine
Besides new features, the Professional Edition also includes priority support and access to the latest nightly and prereleased features across all of our development, including RadRails, PHP, Adobe AIR, and iPhone support. Whichever edition you chose to use, Community or Professional, we look forward to your feedback, feature requests, and comments. It is our community that helps us build a better product — a product that ultimately is for you.

Looks cool, I'm gonna give it a try.
Also.. it looks a lot like the Eclipse IDE.
#1.1 mikulka on 30 Oct 2007 - 22:52
because it's based on Eclipse

over a million downloads

Sketchy, a couple hours after release, magically matching numbers...
But nonetheless, seems to be a quite good thing that Aptana there! Still, sticking to Dreamweaver, non IE-Debugging in the free version is kind of, well, let me live and call it: childish...

It's very correct, no magic there.

Yes, the opening quoted paragraph is so badly written, nowhere do they bother to take to time to explain what their product is, lol. No wonder no one has heard of this yet.

Nice piece of software indeed

Could have at least stated what the application actually IS, rather than just its improvements.

Uhm, a free CSS editor is fine... I'm still using TopStyle lite. Is there any newer tool with a preview function?

I dislike eclipse.

Thanks for explaining what it actually is. I went to the website and discovered that they don't actually want to tell you what it is either. You just kinda get a feel for some of the functionality and maybe some poor screenshots. Their marketing person should be fired.

The top section of the web site, the 'widget' at the top, has various sections describing what it is. You can also go to http://www.aptana.tv and see loads of screencasts about Studio.

Studio is based on Eclipse technology, but most of it has been written from scratch over the last 2 years. Give it a shot, and if there is something you don't like or would like to see improved, just let us know. If you like it, we don't mind hearing that too. :-)
