It's kinda funny it got released today since I went to my storage unit and grabbed my 6600 (MSI 256 AGP) and slapped it in this computer (P4 D 2.8 4 meg cache) to replace the old 5200 I had in here. I have yet to load any games to check it out, but so far the system response is great.

The funny thing is, I've been hitting the same FPS with the 5200 (PNY 256 meg) as I did on my Core2 with the 6600 in it, same quality settings. I'm interested to see if I get any extra frames out the swap. I'll come back and edit this post when I know.

I don't get it. The last two betas were 169.01 and 169.04... but now Nvidia is releasing a new 163.xx driver? Why?

It's not new it's just the old 163.75 beta driver with a WHQL certification stuck on it. Nothing different.

Basically every driver they release is optimized for a specific game. Want to play Crysis, you need 169.04. Want to play Hellgate London, you need 169.01. The problem is that they assign specific developers to work on specific games as part of the "The way its meant to be played" program, and therefore no single driver gets all the benefits. It sucks, and it needs to change. These drivers are meant for the games listed there: Portal, Jericho, Rally Revo, NHL 08 and European Street Racing. It's been proven already that 169.04 uses IQ hacks to get higher framerates run it detects a Crysis executable. Rename it, and you get the IQ back but lose the frame rates. Bah.

There is an XP x64 driver of the same build available. http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/163....nglish_whql.exe

NVIDIA as I've said before their product is great but their drivers suck and on the other hand there is ATI monthly releases of drivers

Funny isn't it? I remember a time when ATI had bad drivers and Nvidia was on top. Lets hope they sort out their act.

Now if only they would release Geforce GO(aka the laptop line) drivers for vista. That would be really neat.
