I think you read that report wrong.
It was the worst rated out of the top antivirus products, and that was quite some time ago as well with their v1.0 product.
There's been several point releases since then and now a major update.

Still reports now indicate it is still worse than the free alternatives. So, why pay for junk when I can get a free program to do the job better?
I wouldn't keep my hopes up for XP x64 support in any products (MS included), I use Vista x64 at work and its quite stable. Vista x64 is almost a first class citizen as support is required to get certified for Vista logo on OEM boxes.
