Introducing Windows Live OneCare, the all-in-one, always-on PC care service from Microsoft. It works quietly in the background on your computer, so you don't have to worry about nasty interruptions from viruses, spyware, hackers, and other unwanted intruders. It also goes beyond security, regularly backing up all your important files and cleaning up and tuning up your computer to help keep it running at top speed. Because you have better things to do with your PC. Windows Live OneCare helps protect your computer, and its automated optimization features keep your PC running at its speediest. OneCare even regularly backs up your important files. You get all this in one convenient package:
  • Protection Plus, with its antivirus and antispyware scanners, managed, two-way firewall, and integrated anti-phishing technology, helps protect your computer from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, hackers, phishing, and other threats. It runs continuously in the background, but you can scan individual files and folders for viruses on demand simply by right-clicking them. You can even scan attachments you receive via Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger.
  • Performance Plus regularly defragments your hard disk, removes any unnecessary files that can clog your computer, and helps make sure important security updates from Microsoft are installed efficiently and on time.
  • Backup and Restore regularly copies your important files and settings to CD, DVD, external hard disk, network drive, or other data-storage device.
  • Instant Support provides online help anytime you need it, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

This is BETA software!, please use caution when installing it on your system

IMO, yes. I've been using it since it's first release. It just gets better and better with each update. The only non-free A/V that's actually worth paying for.

I have to agree. Its not that bad. Its pretty light and does what its supposed to.

In terms of detection rates, it isn't up there yet. Otherwise it is at everything else.

I have been a beta tester for over a year or so & I'm also an I.T. professional & I really like it. It is not a resource hog & it has kept my computer clean. I would recommend it!

pales to Kaspersky and NOD32, but at the rate it's advancing, I might actually consider it in the near future

That's odd, Live One Care is about the worst rated antivirus software out there. On a antivirus report I read, it scored about 82%, where it was the lowest in the class.

I'm sorry, if Microsoft is going to provide that kind of support, I'd rather it be free, because antivirus software like AVG and Avast did much better and they both offer free solutions.

I think you read that report wrong.

It was the worst rated out of the top antivirus products, and that was quite some time ago as well with their v1.0 product.

There's been several point releases since then and now a major update.

I'm pretty sure I didn't read it wrong, it was a pretty popular story on the net.

Still reports now indicate it is still worse than the free alternatives. So, why pay for junk when I can get a free program to do the job better?

I've been beta testing this thing for a while and I love it. They just included an online photo backup option in OneCare 2.0 that is great. It's also super easy to manage all three PCs in your subscription from one machine. At college, I can dictate when I want my family's home PC to run a virus scan or a backup.

I wouldn't keep my hopes up for XP x64 support in any products (MS included), I use Vista x64 at work and its quite stable. Vista x64 is almost a first class citizen as support is required to get certified for Vista logo on OEM boxes.
